Rubbish on beaches
Submitted by beachsoul on Sun, 2013-04-28 22:43
The amount of rubbish being left behind on beaches is just getting out of hand. Who are these morons who think it;s acceptable to leave shit everywhere. No reasonable person can accept that leaving stubbies and fishing line on the beach is Ok. I figure these are the same crew who reckon it;s a great idea to cut sick in the sand dunes too.......Sooooooo does anyone have any better soloutions to beach litter than my current method of picking up other peoples rubbish and taking it home. Perhaps if you have been fined for littering the persons involved could be banned from the beach for 12 months. Your vehical license and details could be put into a data base for rangers to monitor.
Open season on scum who trash our beach environment

How about, just don’t be a slack arse and take what you brought down, back up?
In theory, things will be lighter to carry back to where you came from after you have been there (contents consumed ect), so it involves less effort to take it to the beach than it does to take it home, or back up the track to the nearest bin.
Personally i dont want to see bins in the middle of a beach.

Scarbourah beach are starting to put bins in the middle if the beach now. It's a good idea and not that hard to sort out at popular beaches... If you can take your stuff there you can take it home!

I know it's crap but its these morons who are going to ruin it for future generations!... As much as it sucks to pick up other people's crap it may just be what it takes to keep the beaches open for a while longer (talking about 4wd access)

Its pathetic these people
Its pathetic these people take fish from the ocean and replcace it with rubbish,
These people will never change there pigs,
I cleaned the whole stretch of the kwinana horse beach up to find the very next day stubbies, cans and bait packets everyware,
I thought by cleaning it people would notice, but they dont give a fu#k,
bins on the beach may help but I have found bags of rubbish on the beach within 20 meters of the bin, and some people think its funny to burn them,
Just by taking as much as you can is the best solution, but this cuts into well earent fish/RELAXING time.
Cheers adam.

just come back
from taking granddaughter on the beach to fish, caught some nice herring, throw back 3 nice undersize flounder (bugger) couldn't catch their parents hahah, but must agree the amount of empty plastic drink bottles on the beach, we picked them up and took them all home.
My grand daughter said Nana where do I put the rubbish from our morning tea, said GG what ever we bring in we take back home, only leave our footprints in the sand. Educating kids is also a must, as she said Nana that is a lovely fish, had to say the little flounder is under size and we must be careful to throw it back, so it can grow.
I just can't understand people, just throwing everything away, they aren't teaching their kids to be responsible with rubbish. Old fart took a heap of old fishing line off one of the rods while fishing on the beach, but all that old line went straight in the rubbish bag, even old rusty hooks he took off, back home in the bin.

Totally agree
Camped out at Preston Beach, left with more gear than we came. Ended up picking up all sorts of rubbish. Fishing line left on the beach really winds me up. Suppose a few signs highlighting the fines for littering would deter some, but would be quite hard to monitor and enforce.

it would be nice
it would be nice to find a bit of rubbish on the beach that could lead you to the owner of the rubbish, then you could return it to his front yard

it sounds a bit drastic but
it sounds a bit drastic but why dont the goverment just put massive fines on things instead on a couple of hundred dollars make it a few thousand seems alot but the only people who will think its tough are the ones who cause all the drama!

Beach Litter
People still whinge about being busted for beach camping, why do you think that is happening? I check beaches and camping spots everyday, the litter just increases all the time, sorry but if you can't take your rubbish home with you, don't come at all.

Sickening the amount of crap
Sickening the amount of crap left lying around at wilbinga. Signs up should have an extra digit on the end. But who really monitors the area to inforce the $1000 fine in place? Only so many spots they can ruin before there is no nice beach to camp at. Is this what their homes look like? Does anyone work for the council up that way? Do we just call the rangers with people's license plates?

Fines are not the answer
Fines are not the answer cause the idiots who do it generally aren't caught or dont think they will get caught. Fines will not change their attitudes. unfortunately nothing will and the end result is everyone suffers when access and camping etc is revoked. I know a number of farmers who used to allow free access through their properties but no longer do so due to the thoughtless people leaving crap behind. Can't blame the farmers the idiots just make it easier for them to lock the gates.

Yep sounds like the best soloution is for us to just keep on taking the littering pricks rubbish home with us.......I really struggle to understand their mentality....I've come to a nice beach now im going to leave fishing line and stubbies stewn from arsehole to breakfast! If I can ever find ones home im hrowing rubbish on their lawn!

Some will say iam mad
But pay a fee each year to enter the beach, and if your number is reported to the shire you get banned from that beach
And the shire only give out lic to the ones the use the beach in the right way ?fishing /camping/ family fun/
No bikes/4x4 dune digging/ and assing about
If you can carry the bottle's in you room to remove it too

I too have a gutful of rusbbish, not just at beaches but bush and camping sites.
You can register as a litter reporter on the Keep Australia Beautiful site. If you can associate a vehicle with the rubbish, they get a fine. The size of the fine may also increase if it is a dangerous act, eg, Threw a ciggy butt from a car, whilst in National Park, on a 40 degree day and a Total Fire ban.
I suppose if people get a few fines, they may change their attitude

Thanks Willy
+1 On Willys's note if you want to register on the Keep Australia Beautiful site as a litter reporter here is the link. I reckon theres a bit of gusto and passion in this group to get these douche bags to rethink the way they treat our beaches;
