Rule No. 1 - Never fish in a dirty northerly

Well, I broke that rule yesterday and paid the price. 110 km and dropped on over 30 spots for  naff all except a case of sea sickness and a big fuel bill

No good John

nothing bites in a northerly! That's my theory anyway.

I had the privilege of moving dens house yesterday, the ocean looked awesome from where we were.

you didn't even have anything that you could live bait? Might have switched the fish on a bit.

I fish when I have time and the wind is low

if it's got north in it I don't particularly care however the north has to be light as it's up against the sea and makes it rougher quicker

Have caught plenty of fish in Perth and up north in conditions with north in it

I know I can't be picky with wind direction too much as it's not often I have a day to get out on the water

Last Thursday

Mon, 2017-06-05 11:06

I dont remember exactly what the (very little ) wind was doing last Thursday, but we struggled about 40Kms offshore getting almost nothing from 7:00AM till about 3:30PM when we decided to come back in and try the 3 mile for dusk snapper. Got back in before sunset and anchored and started to burley> just as the sun set, we got a size dhu, then a big bite and hookup but lost that one - called it for a snapper. Then about 15 minutes later got another size dhu. All this in 15M and about 2Kms from Ocean Reef marina after a day of very little 40Kms out !

Check the maori tide charts

Wed, 2017-06-07 06:54

When it says it is a bad day, don't bother going out. Monday was coming good. We picked up 14 barra just flicking lures on Monday, biggest was 85 cm, plenty of rats though. Spoke to other people using baits all weekend for very little.

Same on Friday

Wed, 2017-06-07 09:38

Last Friday was pretty much the same, took us most of the day to get our 2 Dhuies, water was ordinary until late then the morning decision to go out Nor west paid off coming back in with it.
