Running Two Fish Finders

 Hi guys,

I currently have a fishfinder on board and am looking at a chartplotter and decided to go for a combo unit.

My main questions are:

-Is it possible to run two sounders off one transducer (probably dumb question)?

-If not, will the 'beams' from the transducers affect each other? (probably another dumb question)

I may just end up using the combo unit and keeping the old fishfinder as a backup should the combo pack up.

Keen to understand it as well, from my understanding you need a tranny per sounder setup so thats two you will need to install, also they need different frequency setups on both due to interference they will cause

Short answer is

You can only use one sounder at a time

the transducers signals will interfere with each other's units.

i cannot be sure but i'm sure you can run two seperate transducers and sounders at once, you'd probably want to spread them out a bit but as long as you run them at different frequencies it should be fine, probably only a deep water thing in the end when you're out in the 200's

I run two sounders at the same time, with separate transducers obviously, and surprisingly when I run both in 50 kHz, there does not appear to be any interference between the two. Not sure on 200, as one tranny is 50 kHz only.

I run two sounders , but with two separate trannies a 600w and 1kw .. no worries ,  clear as a bell with both on at the same time .. good to compare .. I just ran the wiring up different sides of the boat , whether that makes a difference I don’t know ..

No idea , running off the same tranny though ..

Cheers, I might give the dual frequency idea a go if I can be bothered installing another tranny. If not I might just use the combo unit as a chartplotter for the time being.

if you are using the same make, ie both are Lowrance then it is possible to run both off the 1 transducer, you just need to spend some coin on the hub unit, most pro bream bass boats run 1 transducer and have the forward bow mount unit and console unit running at the same time. it can be done for sure, the other option is to run two transducers off the back, but 1 on port side the other on starboard side of the aft, if this makes any sense. then regardless of what frequency you are using the beams do not interfere with the transducer the beam has come from.

On my old boat I had a furuno p66 about 4-5inches from a lowrance tranny going into a HDS and when running both at 200khz I too had minimal interference, just some slight specking on the furuno. On different frequencies I had zero interference. As someone earlier said I too had each trannys cables running up on opposite sides. On the new boat I have only hooked up the furuno's tranny, but will fit up the lowrance tranny one of these days.

I also run two sounders, Furuno off 1kw through hull and Lowrance off 600w skimmer. No interference at all.

i run two tranducers like others both 1kw tm260 with a furuno and a p66 for a lowrance hds both on 200 with no visible clutter. on opposite sides of the boat though i ran the lowrance on the non recommended side as its only a back up sounder.

I run 2 lowrances either side of the prop. 1 gets small pitting on screen. I havent tried using different frequencies as 83khz is for water 200mtrs+ which I haven't been to yet. Also the 83khz sends the signals slower through the water back to the transducer so it gives a true reading of the bottom, that could be why there is no interference when using dual frequency.

Not too sure but I am happy with what I am reading and what i am catching.

I have the book by John Adams and i think it is very informative. It does from memory have a mention about 2 transducers?
