Ryobi Safari Metaroyal?

Hi

Looking for any feedback on the Ryobi Safari Metaroyal 5000A. They're a bit dated now, but the Japanese manufactured reel is considered by many to the fore-runner of todays Stellas and Saltigas. Since Ryobi sold their fishing division, these reels are now made in China, and are available at a reasonable price.

 Anyone used one recently?

 Cheers

Dan

Thanks for that guys, I'm trying to advise a mate who's just getting into the game and wants an allrounder for jigging and popping. He's baulking at the top shelf options, but I'm also looking at the Shimano Saragosa 14000F, so it'd be really useful if anyone has a comparitive view?

 cheers

great reel for the price.

use it for jigging with twin spools for 2 rods, 1 30lb the other 50lb.

will use it for poppering when I head north next.

plenty of mates have them and no real complaints.

good introduction reel.

I just got a 5000a and have no issues with it. i use it for jigging/popping and using soft plastics for trout and snapper. the only thing is that the spool isn't huge so for heavier lines like pe5+, you wouldn't want to go very deep or chase bill fish imo. i have pe8 on mine and can just squeeze 200m on it. However i was also looking at the saragosa at the time but just about everyone i spoke to said the ryobi was the better real.
