Salmon Season - Photo's Friday 21st April
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-04-21 19:46
We ended up releasing a small dhufish and a few skippy along with a beautiful king george dropped boatside. The wind was pretty blustery all day, but soon as we saw the birds starting to work, it was time! Landed close to a dozen salmon and had a ball on the light gear. Have got some really good footage I will get up in the coming days.

Good work guys!
Just the one school or did you have to move about a bit?
A few phone a friends in amongst them I'll bet.
Looks like you weren't too far offshore either. Any hints?
Cheers

Look in the background of the salmon closeup picture, see any familiar landmarks?

Dolphinfish kept you busy!
Yeah I know roughly where you are but just seeing if you would let everyone else know. (I think you just did)
That Bolts, he's a character isn't he, I wonder who put him up to that. I hope he didn't stir you up too much. (Hehehe)
Cheers

Funny that
Yeh, funny story that one Andy...... I wonder who :)
You need to find the birds to find the salmon, we waited for them for 3.5 hours first for one baby dhuie and blackass.

Salmon
Yeh, tried poppers, couldn't get them to take on it thou. Didn't give it too much of a shot as most of them were going deep after the initial hookup jumps. Tried with a slice and had heaps follow but was too busy on the camera trying to get some good footage of the skippers fish's.
The red and white rapala divers were accounting for heaps, then I changed over to a richter hockzhead and got a few on that. When we first found them we had a triple hookup with 2 of us, was pretty crazy for about 5 minutes, mine shook the hooks at the boat after a sick freejump and we landed the other 2. Will add some of that footage into the video. Will go and get onto making it up now.

Conditions
It was actually really bad out there. There was an hour window where conditions glassed off nicely when it made it to 31 degrees. We were meant to head over to Rotto to try and find them, but it was that choppy we just sat on the 3 mile until it died out. It was good for the hour then the north wester came in and made it unpleasant again, just long enough for us to get some smiles on the dials. :)
