saltiga vs saltist

Gday would like to hear peoples input im tossing up between the saltist 4500 or the saltiga 4500 missus says the saltist im keen on the saltiga just want to know other than price what the big differences are.

Huge difference. The Saltist is built on the budget on of the scale and will have the budget end of the scale materials used for gears and other bits. The Saltiga has minimal plastic bit. Uses a far stronger and lighter material for its gears and obviously has alot more bearings to support every moving part. The Saltiga also has slightly different gearing setup to the Saltist. Its setup in a way it gives you more cranking power. Worth the money??? Yes but good value??? Depends on how much you use it.
If I can afford it I'd go the Saltiga but right now there's also the Shimano Stella SW8000/10000 to compare to as well.

I have the satist 6500 and
I have the satist 6500 and at 1 fifth of the price considering I use it for spinning fast fish up north once or twice a year I could justify the brand new price of a dogfight. 2nd hand might suit you better

It really depends on what fish you are chasing and
what your budget is. I have a 6500 Saltiga and a 4500 Saltist and I love both reels.

Yeah im up north in wickham so mainly spinning for mackies and occasional bottom bashing budget is not the problem justifying it to the broomrider is the problem.haha

Lol You will have to get the Saltiga on the quiet
then and make sure it doesn't show up on your bank statements. I think the Saltiga would be the go up there.

Catalina 4500H
Another choice would be the Catalina 4500H. Its practically is a Saltiga 4500H but with lesser materials and less bearings as well as a different colour scheme. If you really keen later on, can just install Saltiga parts into the Catalina. The Catalina are about half the price of a Saltiga.

Saltiga 4500 are bullet proof.
I have caught GT's, Sambos and wrestled some nice size sharks on mine. Worth the extra cash by far.
Probally my favourite reel, second maybe to my Saltiga Z30.
In fact If I had to go away with just two reels for a month, I'd take those two, cause with them I can catch just about anything in WA waters.

Saltist 6500H
I won one of these in a comp a few months back and must have received a dud - the drag is as rough as guts right through the range - very sticky to say the least.
I was hoping it would sort itself out, but to no avail - it literally makes my Baitrunners look like Stella's.
Anyone else experienced the same?

I have the Saltist 6500.....i think it's a great reel considering the price. I have pulled in some 15kg+ GT's and Spanish mackeral with the odd sharky and never had a problem, drag has been super smooth and it has truck loads of stopping power. I generally fish off Port Hedland & Depuch Is. To be honest if I had the budget I would go for the Saltiga or Stella, but the wife sertainly put a hold on that. I guess you have to look at how often you use the gear you buy and how you maintain it, in my honest opinion i think the Saltist is a better deal in value for money terms.

Saltiga or Catalina
If your budget and wife allows i would definitely go for the Saltiga...if not, i would have a closer look at the Catalina. A few mates of mine have the Catalina's and by all reports they are pretty solid reels for a competitive price.

I have the catalina, with the high speed ratio it is sometimes possible to skull drag large trout up without being sharked. It is bloody hard work with half a pound of lead as well, but the reel has lasted me 2 years of bottom bashing off Dampier / Monties

that way she is not going to ask where the new reel came from.. :-)

You need to translate it
You need to translate it into terms they understand: Shoes, handbags, dirtbikes, lol, whichever things it is she buys. Then go, "but honey, these shoes are a third of the price" and then she'll come up with some reason about how they're not the same, then you say "just like fishing reels ;)". Of course, it wont actually work as logic doesnt apply, and it wont help with your reel purchases and you'll be in the doghouse for a week if you're unlucky (or time it wrong) but at least you had a very small victory before going back to being whipped...... hahaha.
(intended with a whole container of salt, so yes, i know thats not how it always is :p).
