saragosa sw 25000

hi guys, i am thinking of buying a saragosa sw 25000. are they good reels. i would be mostly landbased fishing with it. would it be strong enough if i load it with 80lb whiplash to reel in 2.5 to 3 meter sharks.  i will be balloning with it. thank you

I have the 6000 and it's a very solid reel. I got a 6ft bronzie almost to the boat with it recently (leader snapped) so I'd imagine an increase in size and drag to the 25000 should be fine from shore for what you're chasing.

in the Avatar, I wouldnt bother with that reel. The sharks will drag you and the reel in if you had to use the full might of the 25000!!!!

Hey kingfisha1, I recentally

Hey kingfisha1,

I recentally went down the same path and ended up going to an overhead. The main reasons was line capacity and leverdrag. The saragosa might have some decent line capacity but it will have nothing on a shimano 30 or larger 50 overhead. The lever drag can also be setup to your desired tension and be left in a holder with just enough to hold the balloon until go time.

I ended up getting a Trynos 30 (with 80lb braid) and a Wilson LBG rod from Oceanside. Josh cut a mean deal. I might still get a saragosa in the future but it would be for sliding livies out from shore so mega line capacity isnt an issue, as I cant cast as far as a balloon will go.

Hope that helps. There has been a lot written on ballooning in the forums and there are a few older members that have a wealth of knowledge. I read most of it and talked to a few of them and this was my outcome. What ever you do tho, remember to get some picts and post a writeup for us :)

trying to inhale stuff that makes souped-up cars go faster. Try NOS is not recommended as it will make you laugh (Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous, nitro, or NOS[1] is a chemical compound with the formula N
2O. It is an oxide of nitrogen. At room temperature, it is a colourless, non-flammable gas, with a slightly sweet odour and taste. It is used in surgery and dentistry for its anaesthetic and analgesic effects. It is known as "laughing gas" due to the euphoric effects of inhaling it, a property that has led to its recreational use as a dissociative anaesthetic. It is also used as an oxidizer in rocketry and in motor racing to increase the power output of engines.)

It is Tyrnos!

hi thanks for all the help but the reason I am going big spin reels know is because I am getting annoyed at overheads, I have a talica 12 2 speed witch is really good and a torium 30 that I'm not that happy with.

I have bought two 25000 saragosa's to run 15kg mono for pelagics. Just got back from a Exmouth trip and they did really well landing lots of good dolphin fish and a small marlin about 40kg.

I just looked at getting the gosa 25000 aswell, my plan was for balooning at places like Steep, and skull dragging rays etc from the beach.

I havnt used the reel but had a good play in the shop, definatly a nice reel - and with a nice price tag to match, especially if you fill it with braid it becomes $500+++

I ended up getting the Penn spinfisher V 10500, same drag capacity, bit more line capacity, but also a bit heavier than the gosa (but lighter than the alvey its replacing). I got the reel on sale in one shop and the braid (80lb Fins) on sale at a different shop, all up it cost me $275... I couldn't justify twice the price for something that will get limited use..... Havn't used it yet - but thats going to chance on the weekend :)

I normally balloon with a overhead, reasons being the line capacity, drag, ratchet (which is good for balooning if your fish at places like steep point where u might not be right by the balloon so you can hear it) and i like overheads with lever drags only because you can quickly strike the fish. I only like that as im normally trying to get mackies in from steep point before the sharks get them. Wont be so much of a problem for you if your going for sharks
