Savage Mako 5.5
Submitted by grgg on Wed, 2012-01-18 20:32
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anyone who has a Savage Mako 5.5 could let me know the height of the boat whilst on the trailer (to the top of the windscreen).
I found an old spec sheet that said about 2.4m but I'm not sure if that's to the top of the windscreen or to the top of the bimini / rocket holder.
My Dad has one stored up North which I am thinking about bringing back down to get more use out of it, but not sure if it will fit through the garage (which is 2.1m). If it's 2.4 to the top of the rocket holder I could hinge it.
Cheers ... Gregg.

Heh Gregg, I have a Savage
Heh Gregg,
I have a Savage Mako 5.5 and it definately will not fit in a 2.1 mtr high Garage even with everything down. I had a similiar issue until we moved. Looks very similiar to mine the rocket launcher will fold etc.
Just measured mine and it is 2420mm to the top of the screen and 3160mm to the top of the rocket launcher.
Mine is on a dual axle trailer, which should not make much of a difference.
Hope this is of some help.
The Mako is a great sea boat - and I would not hesitate to recommend. Mine has a 115 4 sroke and has ample power.
feel free to ask any questions
Cheers

Thanks for the info Paul. I
Thanks for the info Paul. I agree it's a great fishing boat. My father has had it for nearly 10 years and we've fished alot up at Cervantes. I want to sell my boat (Haines signature 520Br) and bring his boat back and we'll share running costs. Storage is the issue, a drive through garage but not enough height.
Back to the drawing board.

Yup we used t live in
Yup we used t live in Ellenbrook and storage was a big problem - now we are out in the sticks and have no storage issues
We looked into all sorts including folding windows - but it all got to hard. The harder it is to get teh boat ready the less you use it
Good luck

I checked the front height of
I checked the front height of the garage this morning and it is 2.3m so it would be close to getting into the garage with the Bimini down ... You think it would drop 10-20cm by taking the jockey well off ? (I'm persisting with a solution until I have no more ideas )

Gregg,I doubt it but tell you
Gregg,
I doubt it but tell you what I will lower the jockey wheel on mine and measure the height - pretty sure that we exhausted all avenues, sying that my old garage was only 2150 high.
Hope you are not in to great a rush as I won't be able to check until tomorrow

Gregg,With the jockey wheel
Gregg,
With the jockey wheel right down the dimension from ground to top of screen is 2340 mm.
Your trailer is single axle so you could well be in luck, depending on the position of the axle.
Also the tyres on my trailer are 175R13 light truck. If your tyres/wheels are smaller you may be in with a pretty good chance.
Loking at the photo, I reckon it will clear,, especially if you changed the jockey wheel.
Unfortunately you will need someone to check if possible.
Cheers

Hi Paul ... thanks for taking
Hi Paul ... thanks for taking the time and effort and measuring that.
The tyres on the trailer do seem to be quite small (I'm not sure of the size but they are a lot smaller than those on my boat trailer).
I was thinking if I take the jockey wheel off all together when I need to put it under the garage it might just squeeze through.
At least I know that it will be close - next time someone is up there I will get them to do an exact measurement with the jockey well off and the hitch sitting ont he ground.
Again - thanks for your help - fingers crossed it will go under

If you can manage the boat
If you can manage the boat with the jockey wheel off it will definately fit also if as you say the tyres are small it may fit without getting rid of the wheel
Good Luck

Sinking the driveway not so
Sinking the driveway not so easy unfortunately. Exposed aggregate driveway and concrete garage, anythings possible but that's off limits :-)
