Latest from the people on the ground
Ningaloo St: I Mrs Lefroy (in her 90's) on Ningaloo Station has been told that as of the 30 June she can stay in the homestead, until she passes.
That is disgusting.
Her daughter Jane has lived there all her life and has no where else to go.
They have been told if they leave they will get no compensation, if they stay they can collect money from campers, take to DPAW and they will received a small renumeration for doing so.
But there will be expenses that have to be taken out of the fees first???

Correct me if I missed it but I saw no mention of the other station on that coast-cynical people may surmise this could be due to who owns its lease?

Having met Billie and Jane Lefroy back in 1990 on ningaloo station and many great memories of that stretch of coast over the years I hope it remains available to all.

The Honourable Brendon Grylls, long-time supporter of our efforts to retain wilderness camping along the wild Warroora coast, has today backed pastoralists in our bid to keep our respectful management of access to the Ningaloo coast, and to prevent its development for tourism purposes.
He has said that DPaW and other government authorities don't have the resources to manage the land like we do, on the ground, 365 days a year. "It would seem more sensible to have people that have lived and loved it (the land) for a long time to have responsibility."
We agree, Mr. Grylls. Check out the article, and please sign our petition. Let's keep the ball rolling and keep our right to enjoy wilderness without developments.

Signed and passed it on.
Spent 4 months camping in Jane Bay on Ningaloo station and got to know Phil, Jane and Billie quite well in the time there. Have visited Quobba since the late sixties and Gnaraloo from when it changed ownership back in the eighties regularly, sometimes two or three times a years for a fortnight each time. Still go up there for a fish or just the drive when I can.
Certainly don't want those money hungry mates of Barnett to get their thieving hands on it for bugger all at a cost to the community

Latest Letter from Ningaloo Station, Must read!!!!!
Hi Every one,
If by error you have already received this email please accept my apologies in advance
You may have read in the West Australian paper [dated Saturday March 7 and Monday March 9 ] the Liberal/National government has had unrelenting pressure applied to them from the Department of Parks and Wildlife, formally Conservation and Land Management [CALM], formally Department of Environment and Conservation [DEC] to completely take over Ningaloo station and all of the "Wilderness camping" areas, all in the name of "Conservation". Minister Redman has said the Ningaloo coast regional strategy Carnarvon to Exmouth will be implemented and 100 bed Eco Lodges will be let to the highest bidder for Winderabandi Point, a 500 bed tourist node including accommodation, eco lodges, caravan parks food, grocery and fuel out lets at Ningaloo homestead, four camping sites with commercial eco camp style accommodation all situated on the firm flats at both North and South Lefroy bays and Janes bay will become day use only.
In essence DPaW has again raised its ugly head and is relentlessly pushing government to resume ALL OF NINGALOO STATION for development to the highest bidder. Shops, fuel out lets, Eco tents and closed areas with draconian conditions/and limitations will be applied to Ningaloo station unless the tide can be changed.
We ask if each and every individual person you know who has an affiliation or love of "Wilderness camping" on the Ningaloo coast email and ring the following to express their disapproval of the Department of Parks and Wildlife [DPaW] wanting the Ningaloo coast for development. You the campers and the pastoral station confronted DPaW attempting to take control of camping on Ningaloo station, we won that fight. We took on DPaW when they wanted to include all of Ningaloo station as World Heritage and won that fight and we now ask again for each and every person to put pen to paper and let the politician's know your thoughts and to keep DPaW out of Ningaloo station
Please email this letter to all and sundry and c/c me a copy of your emails.

What a crock- the DPaw are pressuring the govt.
It's the government's department and they'll shut up if they're told- the Liberal government are demonising their own department to fuel their own agenda. They've ignored environmental reports before and they will continue to do so.
The Governments agenda is to sell of as many assets as they can get away with until they're out of office.
Brendon Grylls/Terry Redman don't give two sh*ts-Nationals have the power to vote down any proposal as this party holds a clear balance of power. Effectively they can vote the premier out of the job tomorrow if they so choose to partner with Labor.
They haven't done a thing and they won't- the Libs will cut off their money if it happens (25% of mining royalties goes to regional funding).
So much could have been done for this place and many like it under their royalties for regions scheme but basically all of the money swallowed up by super expensive projects in regional centres. To date $4billion+ (yes that's right) has been allocated to regional projects. All the Libs/nats mates got rich from our resources and now they're looking at selling the Farm, the Cow & anyting that is not bolted down.
You peeps are worried about lack of access due to them redeveloping this for environmental tourisim- at least you still will be getting in there.
Long term I reckon this government will be looking for an overseas buyer (probably chinese) to run the lease. Then we'll see this land ground down & destroyed.
The writing is on the wall with this current government and was before they were voted in for another term- they have no accountibility and are corrupt as hell.
Rant over we get a billion dollar stadium but at what cost....blah blah

What a crock indeed
1. This has been going on since 2004 when Geoff Gallop was in power, he is a Labor party member.
2. Brendon Grylls/Terry Redman don't give two sh*ts-Nationals have the power to vote down any proposal as this party holds a clear balance of power. Effectively they can vote the premier out of the job tomorrow if they so choose to partner with Labor.
How? The leader of the party is elected by the party, the party is voted in by the public at election time. They cannot do anything but be obstructionist and vote as a block with the Nats, Labor etc, against any motions. Unless you are proposing they all hand in their memberships and sign up for the Liberals?

Have been going to Quooba for a number of years and know first hand what a great job the pastoralists are doing up there.
This is just another grab for money by the government who have no idea how to manage this pristine area.
Have also posted on a number of facebook pages in the 4WD community.
Maybe time for another protest outside parliament to show our support.

Once again I ask, what about Cardabia Station-seems conspicuous by its absence, why?
Is it because it is owned by an Aboriginal Corporation?

The government needs to be smart enough to keep this special place as natural as possible for every future generation to come, to enjoy. To lose it in all its beauty and diversity is NOT an option.

For those interested, Warroora has had a stay of execution- they' been given a 5 years extension at which point they will no doubt have to go through this same crap again... Don't know about Ningaloo or Gnaraloo as they've all been sent individual letters but Leonie got hers 5 days ago

One of the best 2 weeks holidays I've ever had was spent camping and boat fishing at South Lefroy bay.
God's own ground.........hard pressed to beat anywhere!
I just love Exmouth: Its a quaint little drinking town with a fishing problem!
