scabby boat dealers!

Twice in the last 3 months have I seen a basically brand new boat for sale for a decent price only for the ad to disappear on the first day and for it to show up advertised by a dealer 'on consignment' for 20% more. The last one jumped from $18995 to $23990, 5 grand for parking it in your yard for a couple of weeks, get f*(&()ed!

Not too sure this is a bad thing. same as second hand car dealerships, they are just earning a living with buying and selling, of course there are good dealerships and not so good ones.
don't forget that boats quite often come with a warranty so the dealership does take on an amount of risk and this transfers to some sort of peace of mind for the end buyer.

It is attractive to sellers though when the dealership rings them and says 'hey, come and sell your boat in my yard, I'll get you more money, more buyers, and you don't have strangers at your house'. If the boat is worth the asking price it will sell, if not it will be back at the sellers house at the old price.

tough one, part of the reason maybe is the many people who are their own worst enemy by bargaining hard to buy then when a price is agreed "just have to check with the missus" or "now Ill apply for finance" or "can I pay it off from my dole check over 12 months etc"

Becomes attractive for many people not to have to deal with that stuff.

Plus the people who want a test run, only to find they are buying one from over east etc and only wanted a ride.

I regularly look at all the boats for sale sites as l like seeing whats out there and also a mates looking to buy atm. I recon l have a good idea on going prices. Theres also plenty of overpriced boats that dont sell and you see the price slowly dropping over the weeks.

Theres usually some good buys out there that arent over priced and l tell my mate to act now or lose it. May of a time he misses out as he acts to slow because theres also plenty of buyers and secondhand dealers looking for the same well priced boats.

Of coarse a dealers going to wack his 3 to 4 K on the price, how is he going to make money. Saying that theres plenty of boats still sitting in yards not moving becauae the dealer gets greedy and over prices the boat with his mark up.

Moral of the story is if you aee a boat you like and is priced well dont wait 2 weeks as it will be snapped up pretty quick either buy the dealers or guys like you looking for a good deal.
