Time to update your browser Harro ;)

I know there is one more 585 in the FW community today, the owner just needs to get some tranny mounts sorted.

Thanks Harro.... Wow! Ask for something and you may receive.

Will try hopefully adjusting a few more settings Saturday if the winds stay where they are around the Cape again.

Thanks again, will let you know how I go!  Cheers

585 Setting

 Hi Mate

Nice info here.

Can you tell me why you prefer the Blue B/G

I have tried it and found it hard to see the pic when standing away from and on an angle to the Soundsr.

Is it just a personal preference.

Have a great day

Regards

Rob

Personal preference mate & what works for him with identifying data. Personally I flick between white b/g & blue depending on light etc

Looks good Darren to what we do here with our units when we set them up for clients.

We go Colour Erase 15% to reduce plenty of weak returns but 10% minimuim.

range settings

Thu, 2011-01-20 16:05

Just a query regarding the Range and Shift button.

Hypothetically - I am fishing in 35m.  Do I use a 40m range scale (thinner trace, less definition) without the shift button, or say a 15m Range scale and then use the shift button to bring the required window into view.  The latter obviously gives a thicker bottom trace as its using the 15m scale.

Thank you

Chris

Shift/Range

Thu, 2011-01-20 16:36

Pick the range of water you want to look at then use the SHIFT button to bring the bottom reading up.

For demersal fish in shallower depths ie 45m & under we use 10m range then SHIFT.

yoyo snapper

Thu, 2011-01-20 17:34

nah snapper, I hate the fish symbols, definately not as accurate mate, when ur trying to distinguish types of fish you need it off mate,

i,ll take a pic of my screen tomorrow , and post it, give you some more tips, :-)

when i start my trip I goto menu and enter the shift 5m key, then it brings up the 5m range, as you go deeper or shallower you just tap your arrow key, keeps the bottom nice and zoomed,

Furuno 600L

Thu, 2011-01-20 20:30

Hi Ledge64, I have a Furuno 600L and the jargon above is suitable for your (and my) machine.

Just an underpowered version of the 620 I guess

Thanks Honsu

I guess that with a depth of 35m, you will use a 10m range, then when it starts getting deeper (greater than 10m), you use the shift button till you get approx 40m on your screen, and the bottom trace is about the bottom third of screen.

My shift is set to 5m increments so the "shift button" should be pressed 6 times to get 40m assuming the range has been set to 10m.

Is that correct?

If so, its something I have been doing, but not with a range as small as 10m.

Kind regards

Chris

No problemo Chris, yes thats

No problemo Chris, yes thats correct and when discecting ground the 10m range is very good but no more than 12m. When in slightly deeper water say the back edge of the drop off where it goes 60-100m etc then look at  using 15-20m range, more suitable due to the depth varience.

What does TVG do? I had a look at mine and it's set on low. Should I change it?

I'm also running 64 colours, I thought that would be better than 16 colours, what the reasoning behind puting it lower?

Mon, 2011-01-31 13:22

TVG as i understand it , would paint certain fish species , e.g snapper , the same colour no matter what the depth , so they appear the same.  i got advised to run on medium by ryan t

i can't see the diff between 64 colours being a bit colour blind so  16 colours is plenty.  how many  shades of the same colour do you need??

TVG

Mon, 2011-01-31 13:56

Graham - as you go out deeper try changing the TVG up to high and you will get much better bottom readings. The best depth to change will vary from unit to unit but I dont go to high till after 100m.
