Seajay or Westerberg

Hi Guys,

After some advice on upgrading my boat. Have been thinking about the following 2 boats but not sure which way to go. Most fishing would be Busselton, but would get to Walpole, Coral Bay, Shark Bay. Just wondering which you would go for.

New Seajay Avenger Sports Side Console - 50/60hp 4 stroke approx $27k

Older ( 1997 era ) Westerberg runabout but get a new say 80/100hp 4 stroke

 Dunno much about a Seajay

Dunno much about a Seajay but if you buy an older Westy make sure you have a good chiropractor on hand.

Quintrex Renegade

bit like that the old Westy's are they. Thought they might have been heavy enough to push through the chop a bit.

was also looking at the Quintrex Renegade side consoles. They don't have the Millenium hull any more. Some Blade hull which I don't know much about.

The old westys are heavy.

Very solid feeling boat in the water, at least in the 5.8 size, but not a soft ride. Just plough along. Why would you want a side console for ocean work? Wet pr*ks of things meant to be driven sitting down in rivers, at least in the smaller sizes. Millenium Blade hull has a much finer entry than the old Millenium hulls, but really haven't heard much since the initial flurry of publicity wjhen they were first released.

Your comparing 2 different boats.Ones a pressed boat with a ply floor against a proper fully welded plate boat with self draining deck. Both have there pros and cons you need to weigh it up.

Side console size

Sun, 2017-04-23 19:40

I am only looking at about the 4.5m size. Can't afford to go any bigger. Around busso would be out to about the 30m mark on a nice day. Up at coral bay, mostly inside, venture out on the nice days.

Seajay would be easy to tow

Seajay would be easy to tow launch and cheap to run.Going new means not worrying about little things that can happen with older boats. That's the way I would go .

Side console

it was actually the missus who liked the look of a little 420 Quintrex renegade at s recent trip to Walpole. She said that would be a great little boat to have, kids could sit up on the front platform. I am just seeing how far I can go with her liking the side console.
