Come Saturday we have the next 4 months to head out and land some demersal' s. Solid week of straight easterlies continues with Saturday & Sunday looking sweat..Touch Wood.
Who's planning a trip out wide ?
Will be short trip for myself Sunday with the daughter tagging along, will anchor and burley and let the easterly do its thing and see what turns up, bottom and top water.

Definitely going to be an open season on the dhuies. Hopefully people that have some good productive dhuie spots will fish them sensibly and not take what they can. Going to be the demise of an iconic species

It is going to be a
It is going to be a slaughter, these next 4 months. Especially in these 1-2 months before the weather starts getting much worse.
People pissed off at the rule changes, not being able to get out when they want, will just go out more often, and take more. Dhuies will cop an absolute bashing.
Unfortunately in testing times, the worst of mankind comes out.
Guarenteed fisheries will be at the ramps checking catches more frequently, then feeding that info back to Punch so he can tighten up the restrictions again.

Dhuies
And i hope that people don't go taking thos one that are 450. Not much in the way of a fillet on little one. Take all the small ones and there will be no big ones in the future years to come. It was a dumb arse decision on Punch's part to put that bit through.

The final say has come down to a bloke that doesn't fish or care about the fishery and the small businesses that rely on it. As long as Marky Mark and his Chinese bosses are happy then big boy Donny is happy

Unfortunately my boat isn't ready yet so I've started the anti inflammatory tabs now for a kayak mission on Sunday. Not planning on two dhus but if I can't find an early pink two dhus will do. Anything 55cm gets released and fisheries get nothing out of me. Good luck to everyone heading out.

Any chance the fisheries minister will be fishing on the weekend? The big fella looks like he'd have a hard time getting in and out of a boat! Certainly looks like he's been enjoying a few to many chinese buffets

My wife ran into a woman that used to work for him a while back.
She reckons he's as dense as concrete and couldn't find his own arse with both hands...........
His recent decisions seem to support these claims.....

Went out last Saturday from Hillarys Ramp
Bit of Father Son time for a feed of whiting and scored a few squid .... It was so peaceful launching and retrieving..no lines , no waiting , no aggro ....Was going to go again this weekend but totally forgot ban ended.
Not sure if I can deal with the madness that will no doubt be happening locally . Might hold off till next week and shoot off to Lano.

SMASHED
Def Open Season. Dhuies are going to get smashed. 4 to a boat. No size limit. Lots of little ones in close that would never have suffered barro trauma are going straight in the eskie now.
You can't make this shit up.

deff. not advocating pillage
and i would be lucky to catch a hand full of dhuis in any one year , however as it stands now the so called sciencie says you can take 4 dhuis therefore your assumptions are in correct ,posts im reading are saying revert back to previous ! 4 is just too many to take !

Lots of catch and release
Lots of catch and release experts around ha, while I question fisheries catch data there studies on barotrauma would be a bit more proven that Joe blogs and his FB comment...I've caught the same Dhue a heap of times, they release well bla bla.
Yes, some tinnie fisherman are going to take a few in close Dhues that would otherwise be release with reasonable success...
But from what I'm reading the typical HERO is dead set on heading out, catching and releasing until he's got 4 x large Dhues on the boat so he can show off his Pics.
The idea is there....getting it through the thick sculls is another thing.

So stupid this new demersal
So stupid this new demersal rules in every way. Certainly set up to be an open season on Dhu's. But also this gold rush mentality to hit it hard before and after each ban period will happen 6 times each year now.
I cant see a reduction in the dhufish take, come 2030 when this plan is suposed to have enabled a 'recovery' we are going to be smashed with more draconian measures.
I don't think they could have come up with a worse solution for the dhu stocks.
Cheers

Has anyone worked out how to tell the demersal fish to not eat the bait on the small hooks yet? Normally have a small rod out to catch wrasse with 2 dropper loops on it! How do I get a message down to the demersal fish that it's not meant for them?

All the lumps between
All the lumps between Mandurah and Lancelin have been protected during the breeding season. The fish would have been sitting there stacked up waiting for the baits as they have only just likely shed the eggs. Outside that area would have been smashed during the spawning period before the amateurs get a shot.
Cheers

Did anyone see fisheries officers at a ramp yesty? The research girls were at Hillarys but no sign of officers. Are they still in class learning the new rules and how to work out if someone is actively targeting demersal's or bait fish?

A true sign of the weakness
A true sign of the weakness of DPIRD and the minister! Donny boy is the first person to a cake stall for the disability portfolio he holds. Big question, is he there for a cake or to represent the portfolio?? The fishery portfolio he holds he doesn't care/know anything about it so no need for publicity

Had my daughter raise he first decent Pinkie, I find it hard to pass a rod on but after it buckled over in the rod it went straight into her hands, she let a few OMG's out but held on strong...lift and wind was the support call.
Was high fives and a happy smile, drifted for a few squid after that, not a sniff otherwise. Good Friday fillets covered.

True that Jack, had a quite patch but she has a real bug to get out atm..few other issues with school and friends so be it the last few trips have been a good distraction.
Yeah was a little sloppy early Guy but she was fine, glued to her phone for the first part. Had her out in some pretty average conditions over the years so she is getting use to the rock & roll..pulled the snapper, let her drive for a bit while we trolled back to carnac, then a hour drifting for the squid before pulling in Nth end of GI jumping in for a swim and walk the beach.

Girls are the worst and
Girls are the worst and social media has made it near impossible to escape from and the kids themselves can't pull themselves away from it. Even with the boys, as soon as there is a scuffle all the phones come out and the footage gets shared around so gone are the days of a dust up and it's forgotten about come home time.
My son had a terrible time in Y7 last year and had a group of Y9s target him (throwing him into bushes, kicking his choc milk, shoving him out of line in the canteen) which was unheard of back in the 90's i.e. older kids targetting younger kids coming to the car in tears everyday. I ended up stepping him up from the kids class to the teenager’s class at Marinekid’s UFC gym where he got to start sparring and mixing it with 16y olds and it pretty much stopped within a month. All it took was for him to began to carry himself taller with his head up and the cowards obviously moved onto the next weak target.

My stepson got attacked by a girl at his school just started punching him in the back of the head while her friends filmed it. He didn't know who was attacking him so reflexes kicked in and he kicked the shit out of her. She went and told her older brother so abit went on that day but no more fights. Next day principal pulled both her and my stepson in to her office the started cry saying she had no idea why he attacked her, but she wasn't aware that the principal had seen the video. My stepson told his side of the story and the principal said well done for telling the truth as he had had a similar problem the week before and let him go she ended up getting suspended. He is now quite friendly with her older brother too I think he has issues with the sister too.
