Selling Telstra shares
Submitted by sea-kem on Wed, 2016-03-23 20:25
Has anyone had any experience selling theirs or know how to go about it? Thinking of dumping mine after nearly 20 years they've made bugger all so a waste of time imo

Selling shares
think you just contact a broker, they take a commission and sell them for you.
Has'nt Telstra been ok lately.
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !

Hey mate
I take it you don't have a broker or an online trading platform?
If not you used to be able to sell them as a visitor on etrade (commission can be pricey)
otherwise contact telstra share registry and see what trading company they go through and you should be able to get info from them to help you.
Another option I guess is to go through an online company for a 1 off trade, just google 1 off share trade or something like that but again it will be pricey.
Hope this helps a little, try a few of those and pick your best option or try googling and see what others have done. More learned traders than me (only been trading last 8-10 years and those have been some of the worst the markets seen haha go figure) should be able to steer you in the right direction.
Cheers

Yeah if your looking to buy
Yeah if your looking to buy any shares with the money then maybe sign up to an online platform and convert the Telstra shares over.
I know mine, which they don't allow new members anymore charge about $18 per buy/sell commission. Most platforms will be similar

Have a look at ComShare Andy.. I think that's what its called..If you bank with them [ Commonwealth Bank ] then no issues to register and trade away your life savings Haha. just do as I done years ago..throw them out. Think it cost me $20 for ComShare to piss them of. Monies placed straight in your account.

If you can do it through your
If you can do it through your bank, it will be heaps cheaper. Had the same with some poor performing shares but I'm with ANZ and used Etrade to off load them.

Yeah mate $18 per sell and $18 per buy. Westpac do have an online platform and they look like they have a 1 month free brokerage which could be good for you.
check link below, best to give them a buzz tomorrow and see how best to sort the Telstra shares to be recognized on their platform if/when you sign up.

Thanks Ryan, I think that could just be the ticket. I've got a mate that mucks around with shares a little and hopefully we'll be out fishing on Friday or Saturday so I'll pick his brain too.

Link
Pretty sure the trading company that Telstra use for their shares is Link Market Services.

Sold mine directly through them, surprised you haven't been contacted by them (sometime in 2013 when they linked up with Telstra). Very easy process.

if you want to sell
if you want to sell yourself - set up an account with e-trade, comm-sec or any online platform offering cheap brokerage. Once set up you will need to transfer the shares to your account on that platform - you will need the HIN or SRN number which is on your holding statement - once they are in your account/portfolio on the platform you can sell them, funds will be available to transfer to an account after 5 days
cheers

If you don't need to flogg'em, don't
Just my opinion, they aren't doing too bad at the moment.

One of the better shares
Capital growth plus dividend rate of return for 3 years = 11% pa
5 yrs = 20.6%; 10 years = 11%
I'd say they're one of the better performers for the past 5 years, esp. when dividend is consider. Current yield is 5.9% pre-trax
