Shark Bay pelagic action inshore

I am going up to Denham in April and was hoping to catch some maccies and any other pelagics cruising around. I have not been there before and the research I have done mentions spots around Dirt Hartog Island and South passage, which sound great, but I wont be able to get that far. Is it worth trolling around out from Denham or Monkie Mia or should I just focus on catching a few pinkies.

Cheers Gaffatron. I will keep that in mind. Also I have heard of people trolling up maccies not far off the beach out from Monkey Mia. Are there any Shark bay veterins that can confirm or deny this? Trolling is far and away my prefered method of fishing so I will be having a crack, even see if I can get a estuary cod or two interested in a deep diving minnow.

Hi Mojohand

We had a weekend at monkey mia around March last year and found big bust ups inshore between monkey mia and cape peron - longtail, trevally, shark macks, whales and heaps of sharks so hopefully theyll be around this year!

Trolling deep diving lures worked the best.

CHOORLES

yep was with Choorlesy, was a good trip! hopeufully a lot of bait has moved into the bay like last year. A lot of whale and pelagic action. casting stickbaits into bustups but the deep divers got the bigger longtail down deep. Broad bar macks were prevelant also. find the birds obviously.

If the bait hasn't moved into the bay then the pelagic action wont be as prevelant in the shallower water.

In the past i have got yellow fin, narrow barred and broad barred spainish out of monkey mia.  the locals say the pelagics dont move into the gulf until april, so the later you are there, perhaps the better.
