shark bay shark fishing

hey all,
heading up north (shark bay and then coral bay) early january 2012 and dead keen to hook a shark or 20 ;) just want a few pointers on bait and burley, have caught myself a dozen herring and will try do the same for tailor bit closer to the date we leave..
should i fillet the fish and put them on a 7/0 hook? or should i just put the hook though the hole fish does anyone tink one way would work better than the other? my other option is to catch some live bait and give that a shot, and as for burley tuna oil? i have a hand mincer so ill put a few fish though that and feed it into the water, and other tips or things i should know? thanks heaps :)

hey, i just back from exmotuh and tried shark fishing for the first time ( check profile for pics:), all we did was go to the fish cleaning sations and raid the bins, and chucked a head on and waited and then chucked some smaller heads and frames out for burley, over 3 nights we had 15 hook ups. try mauds landing :) hope this helps

new to this site so having trouble finding your pics, so you only used fish heads as bait? how big did they rang to and from? i have done that much research were to fish and will be giving point maud a shot for sure! cheers for your help :)

em ok, well go on my profile and go on track, then find the one that say exmotu landbased shark fishing pics and thats it :), yer only fish head, mackeral ones were the best, and coral trout, we used big tunna and mackeral frames for burley, just chick them out

I tend to have more luck with a whole fish, or front half of a fish, preferrably fresh and caught right there. I go for a bait of about 400 grams with a strong 9/0 stuck through the forehead with about 1.5 metres of black heatweld wire, no sinker. If I use a whole fish I slash it a few times down the sides to expose some flesh.

i found livies or fresh fillets the best
plenty of sharks in shark bay ,i was using live baits or fresh fillets on a 1m mono 200-300 lb with 2 7/o hoodlums snooded,a ball bearing swivel,runing sinker 30 lb mainline and getting sharks up to 5ft,i was trying for mulloway or snapper and kepy getting busted of on 60lb mono,lucky i had a hand reel of 200-300lb to use on my rig, and still i got busted of by bigger sharks,wire would be a better option,also dont put your feet in the water after dark the sharks come right up to the shoreline ,i spotted a fair few with my dolphin torch around monkey mia where i was fishing and also denham ,they dont call it sharkbay for nothing.
