You could do the same thing here in Perth and you would be within your rights to do so, no rules broken.

No they aren't, that
No they aren't protected in the metro anymore, that legislation was corrected to exclude tiger sharks, they were never intended to be included.

The regulations changed the
The regulations changed the definition of what a whaler shark is and the new definition does not include tiger sharks.
Whaler shark is now defined in the regulations as being only from the Higher classification 'Carcharhinus'.
This no longer includes tiger sharks as they are of the higher classification 'Galeocerdo'.
The previous definition of a whaler shark used the family name which captured species such as the tiger shark that were never intended to be included.
trust me you can go and catch a 3m tiger now in the metro area and its perfectly legal.

They kept that quiet, when did that happen ? FWA web site still says whalers? Was there any media statement or anything to explain, I certainly missed it. Recfishwest still says all whalers.

Changed 5th of October 2019, that's when the whaler shark definition was changed from Family Carcharhinidae which included tigers, it now is defined more specifically as species Carcharhinus which is not a tiger shark.
amendments to the regulations and act are published in the WA Gazette

umm .. do any of you know
umm .. do any of you know what you are talking about ... it makes me laugh when there is a "kill the shark" rant on tv after a shark attack ... if you jumped into the african wilderness and got killed by a lion .. would you go and kull the lions? If a person was trampled by an elephant in africa would you say shoot them ... it's pathetic ... I have swum, surfed and dived all around OZ .. I take my chances .. would i blame a shark for biting or killing me .. no ... why .. bcoz it's THEIR domain .. look at the number of people at the beaches these days .. look at the stats of attacks per capita of beach swimmers/divers ... has anything changed ??? its just more uneducated arm chair hysterics .. !!!

Personally i feel its more
Personally i feel its more the amount now rather than just because of the killing of humans. Do we cull roos? Rabbits? Foxes? Camels? Horses? Goats? Pigs? You stop all that there would be no vegetation multiple animal diseases no fruit or veg or meat in our shops. So why not cull some sharks to not only add to a market create jobs and make fishing a more viable sport as well as our oceans safer. As soon as anyone mentions a cull the greeny flogs get their Hessian nappies in a knot. Only reason their kale is on the shelves is because all the rabbits where poisoned or trapped and died a terrible death.
On a slightly left of centre note was covid chinas way of culling humans? Haha why are sharks untouchable

I will respect your views....
.. if you assure us you dont swat flies and mosquitos (or use insect killers in general), get immunized, kill spiders, use pesticides in your garden etc.
The sentiment is the same... It's their domain too. Creature size shouldnt make a difference.

for sure ... its THEIR
for sure ... its THEIR domain .. not ours ... look at the difference .. a black man opens up and kills a dozen people .. do we cull them? if a mozzie kills thousands of people with malaria .. do we wipe them out? if a person kills another by drink driving do we kill them and their family ? it must be traumatic for people to have a relative killed by a shark .. no problem there .. but to then blame a shark for doing what it does really shows the mentallity of the person complaining ... slap them in the face and say WAKE UP!

But do they kill them all over ?? No .. perhaps in hot spots ... not like they have a shark cull all around OZ .. just in case one flies South ...
A lot of it is political .. OMG we will have the public complain .. better do something ... I know .. we will kill some to make them all feel better !!!!

Has anybody noticed the
Has anybody noticed the change in the fish population? Years ago there were no blowies around .. only at the hot water outlet from our old (now gone) power station. That's bcoz they were an introduced species from ships ballast in the harbour. I can say this as I was a pro fisherman back in the day. Now they are everywhere. The water has warmed so they can travle and are in plague proportions. All the food that used to be around for young Tailor, Herring and skippy has now gone .. fish migrations are pretty much the same though .. Tailor a few and far between now in the South .. salmon do their normal routine but the Mulies are pretty much gone (used to see shoals of them ..not any more) .. sharks go hunting and find nothing .. they seek the nearest thing around .. and if it happens to be a person .. so be it .. cant complain if the base cause of it all is us ... if we go swimming .. we take the risk .. enough said .. sorry for the rant .. it just drives me crazy .. my therapy is now complete :-)

So lets cull sharks in hot spots then champ. I won't lose as many sailfish if we do it up here. 17 years zero loss of sails to sharks ...last 5 years I 've stopped fishing for them as sick of seeing them get smashed by sharks that tune into boat . Time to take up shark and greenie hunting I think. You W.A. based or is the 2410 your postcode?

the only place to catch
the only place to catch blowies in buno was at the power station hot water outlet .. the water was too cold for them anywhere else ... now .. anywhere around buno and your bait is stripped in seconds by schoals of them .. the estuary is full of them .. the beach North and South a plagued by them .. if it wasnt for the warmer water then they couldnt survive .. the actual species is listed now as "natural" .. that is the quantity of fish we are talking about .. now a new resident species ..

Being from Sth Aust...
I'm not familiar with your WA term of 'blowies'.... at first I thought you actually meant blow-flies....
So, please.. what are the 'blowies' you refer to ? I presume some species of nusciance fish..?
A pic would be helpful...

OK.. found them....
in the site 'fish identification guide'...
In SA we know them as 'toadies' or puffer fish....
ANd regretfully thee are popular fishing areas here where they are in plague proportions....
I do remember them being a big pest when I first started fishing... some 60 years ago....

we had none until the hot
we had none until the hot water system from the power station allowed them to survive .. they were from ships ballast water so not a true WA species .. despite what they say now .. they clean up anything and everything .. our estuary prawns are now gone .. whiting beds gone .. put a toe in the water .. gone ... and they still say that its the same as years ago .. madness ... blue crabs wow you couldnt put a foot down without stepping on them .. now your lucky to see one .. very sad

ummm did i say that?? your
ummm did i say that?? your probably too young to know though .. you could take a dinghy behind the Parade Hotel and you could hear the claws on the bottom of the boat (yes it was shallow) .. you could stand in the Estuary and crabs would be attracted by the white of your feet .. can I get a feed? you bet ... did I say you couldnt? No .. over reaction much is an idiotic comment if you cant or dont want to acknowledge the past. My point is, the blowies were only located in the hot water of the power station (can you remember when we had that or are you too young?), on occassions they would get into the estuary (mid summer). Now they are everywhere. Why, do you think the water temp is rising? So if you cant acknowledge this then perhaps YOU might have your head in the sand ... its the mentality of "if I ignore it then it never happened".
As far as mozzies are concerned, granted they do spray areas where there is imminent chance of passing on malaria or ross river ... but do they do is systemically across all regions? That was my point.

Sometimes we need to adapt.
Sometimes we need to adapt. Can't just throw a prawn in and catch a great fish everytime. Hard body lures, hard baits (mussels) live baits all do the trick. The good fish are still there and plentiful just need to change methods. I've caught tailor with guts full of blowies so seems the fish have adapted so can we.

timbo2410 your quote ...
timbo2410 your quote ... if you jumped into the african wilderness and got killed by a lion .. would you go and kull the lions? If a person was trampled by an elephant in africa would you say shoot them ... it's pathetic .
m8 any of the farm i lived or worked on in africa - if a lion killed someone - it was tracked and killed - it was considered ok no licence needed , and the only time u could cross neighbour fences, without permission -- even cut them and fix later to follow such animal, if the same lion or pride took cattle or goats more than 2 times same thing applied
kruger national park will kill lions if they become nuisance animals - if they come into a camp regularly and start eating refuse etc. they get shot
elephant that become too aggressive - charging vehicles for instance get shot- normally single old bulls, but in '91 i saw a herd of 32 animals shot because 3 of them started chasing /attacking cars- u cant shoot 1 elephant in a herd, they will see humans as enemy afterwards -so the whole herd gets taken
we tried different ideas shooting only older etc animals- but they all remember, and will go roque
dont talk about places u dont know m8
