I went for a fish in the 70s
I went for a fish in the 70s of tantas the other day and they are bad. Catch one fish off a spot and move and you wont have a problem. Five minutes on any spot had a monster bronzie circling under the boat. Once a shark has turned up move and at least 500m and at speed or it will be sitting under your boat within a couple of minutes.

500 metres
500 metres is about 1 minutes swim for a shark and they will and can follow you the same way dolphins do off Nanga, we moved about 4nm at 20+ knots and within 5 minutes the same 4 dolphins that had been scoffing any undersize we threw back were right there, the mother with its young one took about 10 minutes to arrive

I was being conservative
I was being conservative with 500m I usually go at least a 1km and flat out. One drop with a big lump of lead to get down quick. If we get a fish move straight away. Some of the storys you here at the filleting table make you cry. Donating fish after fish and not moving and the worst thing is laughing about it.

I’ve always thought what’s
I’ve always thought what’s the point in bag and size limits if you lose 15 fish to sharks and land the one sized one?

Not a popular viewpoint but
Not a popular viewpoint but this is why it probably would have been a good idea for commercial trapping of fish to restart off Shark Bay and north with quotas.

Seen the clip of the trap
Seen the clip of the trap guys feeding undersize reds to the whalers like lollies? They will still follow the boats.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Traps
Was at the meeting when the traps were discussed a couple of years back.
Lots of opposition to them, and one of the questions asked is that they were tried years ago and failed so why bring them back. Only one professional was behind the proposal so who would benefit

Not sure
Not sure but can try to find out by asking some of the old skippers.
Now their quotas have been slashed , mates has gone from 25 tonne down to 5, two good trips and he can tie his boat up for the rest of the year
