Freedom 2? Thats very old,
Freedom 2? Thats very old, isn't it?
Try Dave Manning from Subaquatic or Wombat from Hookah Dive for a price on a new one, I hear the batteres pack up after awhile and the old ones only use old-style batteries with memory problems.

i heard that they copy the
i heard that they copy the heart beat or the rates of a big sharks electrice pusles. so they mimic a 5m shark wat happens if there is a 6m shark?????
also with great whites they will swim out of your eye sight but still in theres till they think you are food then they built up speed and i dont think that they will be able to pull off do u? have you seen the force they put into there kills, they launce them selfs.
i think they are good for reef sharks say up north, but my uncle was saying that his diving mates used to wear them but they said they sore more whites while wearing the shield so they dont wear it anymore. just what i heard and think.

Shield
Paul, I've only worn a shark shield once and it was on a 30m dive. Turning it on for the trips up and down is probably the right way to go. I didn't and I couldn't tell you how many times I gave myself a boot while trying to loop a cray out of a hole when I laid on it. Funny now, not so funny at the time.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

I've got a Freedom 7 Paul
I've got a Freedom 7 Paul and I rate it highly. You do get a good boot off it if you touch the trailing 'tail', but its not too bad.
My old dive buddy and I used to shock each other for a laugh. Not so funny when its you but funny as watching someone else jolt around before they realise whats going on

The idea of cutting corners
The idea of cutting corners on something that keeps sharks away. Doesn't sound too cleaver to me..

Enter water, switch ON
Well said, used my SS while surfin at Guillotines yesterday. Very grey overcast glassy conditions, heaps of baitfish around. Two guys were waiting at the steps for some more crew to go out. As they were a bit spooked, once they found out i had a SS on my board they were my best mates HAHA. Never gave me aboot while getting clobbered by a set, never tangled with my legrope very impressed with it and i got me home for tea with my family.

"Guillotines"is a very
"Guillotines"is a very isolated place to surf. A few time when the bigger sets roll in you feel like your padling to South Africa.. With no hope of returning..

I guess
you just do what feels safe. A couple of Ab divers i know tried them out for 2-3 weeks but found the frequency of seeing GW's was far higher. Stopped using it and found they saw less. (More like previous) Suffice to say they don't bother with it anymore.

I think I was getting carried away in the moment ,seemed to be a good buy .We have been comfortable in the water without them but for the right price I would have one .
