SHERBS GIVES US A TOWELLING
Sherbs, Uncle Stu and I decided to try our luck down to a local beach last night - with reports that some reasonable sized salmon were continuing to be caught in the area.
With Seabreeze predicting 12 to 16 knotts and a rising tide, it was looking good for a nice evening and night session.
Unfortunately we arrived to the find the first part of the equation had been blown out the window, with the seabreeze breeze close to 20 knotts and growing stronger.
That blew out my plan to try a little hole next to the reef where I knew salmon had been holding up.
However, from the car park we could see that there was a nice gutter next a large rip straight in front of the surf club.
We set up shop and Sherbs hooked a herring first cast. The hole we were fishing looked fantastic, however, there was a fair bit of weed floating around which was making the conditions tricky with the ever increasing wind.
Damo and his father-in-law soon joined us and headed off to try their luck with some metal lures in the spot near the reef.
Apart from the wind it was a beautiful evening with a spectacular sunset - and the fish seemed to be around with Sherbs hooking a nice little mullet.
Then he caught a great, early season salmon.
Then he caught another herring, and another herring and another herring, etc. It was a masterly performance of surf fishing in trying conditions.
While Sherbs was knocking up catching fish, and Damo had picked up a nice little salmon from his metal tossing, Uncle Stu and I were building up a sizeable pile of seaweed along the shoreline.
We managed to stay on until about 9.30 pm, with Sherbs landing a few more herring and Uncle Stu and I continuing to build our weed piles.
I did manage one good run on a fillet of Sherb’s mullet, but my braid parted pretty early in the fight. That was the way things were going. I had caught Adam Galash’s “no fish mojo”
All in all it was a good evening. Given the right conditions, there looks to be some real promise in that spot.
Good onya Sherbs for a top performance. Well done on the salmon on the metal lure Damo.
Uncle Stu was hindered by a lack of heavy enough sinkers. Me, no excuses, just a poor performance.
I will asdd some more pics later. All the best, Colin Hay

Lol Colin
If there was money to be made form seaweed, Stu and I would have been rich.
P.S. I don't know about the old guy showing the youngins, Sherbs is not much older than me.

Seaweed and Sherbs
Hehehe
Could always turn it into fertiliser or make a VERY large seaweed soup.
As for Sherbs, well, I seize any (rare) opportunity to show respect to my elders

No NO! Col
it is illegal to remove seaweed from a beach - even down here where half of the Busselton - Port Geographe beachfront disappears under 2 metres of it every year and the ratepayers pick up the tab for the stuff up in design of the groynes.

Thanks all Yes it was fun. It was good to fish the beach
where there was some good gutters and the potential for some big fish.
I am not sure if Sherbs is using "special" bait or something from the back of his van.
