Shimano Torsa
Submitted by STEVE231 on Sat, 2010-03-06 10:11
I am considering buying a Shimano Torsa for a overhead rod that I have owned for a while but not used.
I was looking for some feedback in regards to this reel from anyone who owns one or has used one before.
Thanks, Steve.

Nice reel, and super smooth.
Nice reel, and super smooth. What size are you going to go for?
IMHO its a bit too heavy and fast for jigging, although some people do use it with great success.

Torsa
Till, I would probably buy the 30, more so for the line capacity. I would still use my Stella for jigging, but I am thinking to use the Torsa for bottom bashing. Gear ratio maybe a little high??

I've got a Torsa 20 and I
I've got a Torsa 20 and I think that's about as big as I'll go. You still get 300m plus of 100lb braid on it and like Till said it's nice and smooth with heaps of power. Unless your looking to fish deep I don't think you really need the 30, but if you do, it's only 26gm heavier than the 20 so the weight difference won't be noticable.

go the torsa
I have the 20 and I LOVE it. Definitely use it for jigging, trolling and bottom bouncing. I love that you know how your drag is set by looking at it and can thumb it for extra drag on a moster.
There is one for sale on Western Angler site with a good rod for $700, could sell the rod for $150 - 200 or guy may separate. Comes with braide, way to go I reckon.
cheers

Why bother with the one on wangler when you can get them new for $600? I saw an ad in the sunday times, and I'm sure the site sponsors would be happy to have a go too.

Talica is a lot small, the
Talica is a lot smaller, the base Torsa is 28oz, the base talica is 16oz.
The Shimano Talica TAC8 has almost exactly the same line retrieve as the Shimano Ocea Jigger 2000P, but unfortunately it has a lot higer line capacity (~395m/40lb v's 300m/PE4), and the spool diameter is smaller therefore wider.
Shimano if you are reading: WTB TAC8 Narrow.

Talica's
I just had a look at the Talica's on the net and don't seem to be a bad reel. I like the idea of the drag cams for the Torsa and also the couple of extra bearings, but a two speed reel has got it's benefits as well.

Actually there is a single speed talica, not sure if they're out in Aus yet and it does save nearly 100g.

the talica 8 is just the best looking bit of gear for inshore work, if only i had the money.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.
