Shore Jigging!
Hello all,
Thought I'd post up my latest capture on a method I have been experimenting with for a couple of years! It is similar to jigging but in fairness is more of a spinning/jigging hybrid technique involving long casts and short jigging bursts followed by free-spooling the jig back to the bottom! So far I have nailed a few small/medium sized groper, harlequin, kings, pesky salmon and now (after about 10 bust offs) a solid samson. I was pretty stocked with the capture as I got him on my "light" spin gear (in comparison to the GT gear I normally use), 7' trinnus, oceano, 30lb braid and 40lb leader and a 40gm cougar occy jig (with 1/0 hooks). Gonna give this a good go at Steep Pt over summer! He weighed 30kg but I was fishing alone so had to deal with self timed photography...
Anyway I hope you enjoy the piccy!

Well Done
Excellent capture from shore, good to see a sensible fisho as well, wearing the safety jacket etc - just in case of the unforseen....... Well done!

Hey Jack Did you make that jig yourself?
It looks a little like you have remodelled an impact sinker.
If not, then I will keep that idea for myself (Lol).

Awesome capture.
There are some metal jigs in the market that are made specifically for shore-jigging, i.e. cast and jig back.

If you're getting them on shore cast jigs, do you think you could get them on poppers?

Thanks guys, That fish came
Thanks guys,
That fish came from one of my old Albany haunts!
Jay,
They do hit poppers, but I have only seen em fired up enough on two occasions when they come inshore in big packs, march through to may is the best! It's awesome watching half a dozen 20kg sambo's smashing a helpless salmon on the surface! The main problem you have when they are this fired up is the salmon, they are usually thick and it's very hard to get the poppers past em, they smash those big dumbells and roosters like their mulies...maybe some of those really really big poppers or stickbaits you use would be the ticket...I have had one smash a big slick rig on the surface...

If you ever need someone to come gaff and photograph your fish let me know mate! As an Albany raised boy myself I'll be heading down from Perth as much as I can when the weather starts to play ball.
