Short trip out
Went out from Hillarys yesterday at midday & headed NW. Plenty of surface activity with a few big chop ups. From what i could see they were southern blues & managed to bring one on board around the 5-6kg mark. Something i haven't seen before was a serious bait ball getting hammered by tuna & sharks in 8m of water!!! Couldn't latch on to any though.
Few size dhuies out there & managed a couple of cod. Might have been wirras but they had bands & spots. Only in 40m. Plenty of 30cm pinkies around.
Not bad for 4hrs on the water.
Now for a bitch! To the @#$%wit who came & pinged my spot while i was into a dhuie, i hope your GPS shits itself! There is nothing more annoying than people that do that. You put a lot of hard work into getting good ground not to give it away to twats like that. If i wasn't fighting a fish i wouldn't have been too polite!!
All in all though an enjoyable arvo on the water.

Dry land pinging
where were ya mate, what size hook was ya using, how deep, what bait, exact GPS coords would be good, have you caught fish there on a regular basis, were you anchored or drifting, did you use much burley.

So what exactly is
So what exactly is 'pinging'? Is going past a set of cray floats pinging, or just changing direction to ping someones spot!! I do find it ammusing as I don't know a person who can go past a set of floats without having a look!!

Pinging
I think it is common courtesy not to do a lap around someones boat & marking the spot on your GPS. Very poor etiquette.
I am responsible for going over to a set of cray floats to have a look along with most others but while you are fishing a spot to have someone deliberately come over & mark it is very poor form.

pinging is when someone
pinging is when someone comes close to you and marks a couple of spots on his gps so he can come back later and check the ground out and have a fish. if your onto a big fish try and hide it if another boat is aproaching you so they dont see the big bend in your rod

completely agree with
completely agree with that
doing a lap around someone fishing smacks of pinging
lowest of the low
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Had it
happen to me awhile ago. Bloke come within feet of the back of the boat realised it was good ground went 10m away parked his boat and then blasted out the tunes on the radio. He couldn't hear me screaming at him cause it was that loud, I guess lucky for him. Nothing worse in my eyes, i spend alot of time looking for new ground and to have some one come up whom you dont now and do that is very low bad form.

Someone in a little yellow
Someone in a little yellow american bowrider probably thinks I pinged them last week. A mate has exactly the same looking boat so I went to within a few feet and only then realised it wasn't my mate.
All I could say was "GDay mate" and choofed off. Probably thinks I am the biggest arsehole around.
For the record, for some reason my Lorance X25 won't save a mark at the moment. I will have to get the dreaded manual out.

Pinging
Was skippering a pro boat and had just finished up pulling gear in close off Sugarloaf and headed due west towards the Yallingup lumps.Had travelled about 2-3nm out when I spotted 2 boats fishing about 300 yards south of my course,I slightly altered course then straightened up again to see their reaction.Fist waving in the air and mouthfuls of abuse for altering course to "Ping"a spot already on the Gps and known by myself and thousands of others well before GPS was invented.
If the position had been reversed and it was me in a pro boat being pinged he would have been cock a hoop on grabbing a spot from a pro.
Only wish I had a movie camera with me,would have won funniest home videos.

About a month ago I was out
About a month ago I was out and for 360 degrees could not see anything except water and all of a sudden and boat came screaming up and and stopped about 30 meters from me. I had a dhu on at the time and it was a little difficult to hide it so I took the fish on board and then left to find some new ground. I had already difted over the spot so no way was I giving them any more clues. I do remember when I first started out I liked the company and safty of other boats around so they probably thought I was pining them also (which was no tthe case).
