Shred Test - Lots of Metro Species

Yesterday was the first time that we could test the Shore Catch mulie shred over a day’s solid fishing Perth Metro.  It was the MAAC comp, and only the fourth one for the year as four have had to be cancelled due to strong wind warnings (over consecutive Saturdays!).  Conditions were generally excellent, but the NE was blowing early.  We headed to the high 30’s first up, which was a change for us as we usually catch the inshore species first waiting for the wind to drop before heading further.

You can’t leave the marina until 7am so we arrived at our ground about 7.30am.  As I have described before, we just get to the general area and sound up the fish then spot lock the Minn Kota.  We evaluate the bite and if it is suitable, the shred and burley is then deployed to a few metres off the bottom.  The thing we learned from this trip is there is no doubt the shred improves the bite (we did the “no-shred / shred” test).  We got fish all day, and my highlight was the big mulloway that was picked up mid-morning.

The bite was fierce.  We moved around a bit to maximise the number of species, and to occasionally get away from schools of big sambos.  Dean picked up this horse, that weighed in at 25kg+ and it was time to move on.

Dean ended up with 10 species for the day, and I got 7.  The fish were:  Mulloway, Red Snapper, Queen Snapper, King George Whiting, Flathead, Skipjack Trevally, Tarwhine, Sand Whiting, Garfish and Samson Fish.  There were plenty of pinkies, dhuies, baldies and black arse but none were "keeping" size - released in good condition.  We threw heaps of fish back and only kept the larger models and/or those on the list that could be weighed in.  We could have easily bagged out for more weight but we only took what we would use.  Can’t complain about this bunch of tasty ones (the esky lid is 730mm).

Another awesome day.  The shred is an excellent product and, as per FW Member’s requests, we will make our first delivery to Rockingham tomorrow (Compleat).  It is definitely ready for the wider market.

Shred Sizes

Sun, 2016-08-14 16:06

Beau,  Compleat has ordered 1kg and 2kg mulie shred, and 2kg mixed fish shred (fish waste from our commercial operation, including prawn waste from processors).  It's made and will be delivered Monday.  If you want different sizes and types, I'm sure we could work it out.  Cheers.  Mick

 Nice haul Mick!

Is that compleat in rocko who will now be stocking the shred?

How are you deploying the shred in the 30s? Berley bucket or just dropping chunks down?

Cheers Pete

Shred Outlets

Sun, 2016-08-14 17:46

The current outlets are: Shore Catch Wangara, Oceanside Tackle and Marine O'Connor, Compleat Angler Nedlands, Tim's Tackle Plus Guildford, and from tomorrow arvo Compleat Angler Rockingham.  What is stocked from our wholesale price list is up to the individual store.  Distribution will increase soon but there is likely to be only one stockist in a particular geographic area.

We deploy the shred in 1.5kg or 5kg frozen blocks in a weighted scaler bag, combined with the fish based burley.  We are lucky to have the Minn Kota as you can spot lock and not anchor in relatively deep water.  On the drift, it may be best to do a first run over a lump deploying the shred and then a few drifts after?

The key is getting the shred where your baits, jigs, plastics, etc will be.
