Sikaflex not curing
Submitted by Travisd on Sun, 2015-10-25 15:11
Anyone out there had dramas with sikaflex not curing
washing down boat this morning and rubbed hand over the transducer (thru hull) and got a white stain. Upon closer inspection the sikaflex appeared wet when u touch with finger.
Been installed over six months. Interior side seal seams ok but going to pull it out this week but it's not a fun job

Im with rob. I used some
Im with rob. I used some stuff from Bunnings that was very close to sika but a little cheaper. Never cured and was a fair pain to clean up the mess.
Genuine only for me.

Pretty much melts it.even
Pretty much melts it.even if its cured the acetone will still break down the sikaflex.surface will become little tacky and if you were to rub it with a black rag you'll get a bit of white sika on it.
I reckon thats what is happening with your transducer and explains why the inside is fine!

Many years ago, I made a rope
Many years ago, I made a rope sling setup to lift a 3.5t keel. After all the splicing was done, I coated the sling in sikaflex to offer a bit of UV protection. The sika took months to go off.
I was working at a marine chandlery at the time and spoke with the sika rep when he came in and he said that it was most likely due to exposure to chemicals or similar.
It can happen but these ropes hadn't touched chemicals, at least whilst I had owned them.

metho causes similar
Used metho to clean up the hull when repairing the rub rail on the boat, the stuff i used was from Bunnings, and the meto caused it to go tacky, like the kids sticky hand toy. Months later it still hadnot set, Eventualy scraped it of with a blade.
