Simply Untroutable..........

Hey crew here's a quick report on my last trip out Monday 4th July...

I had a couple of days of at the start of the week and was keen to get amongst it but the weather and conditions were not on my side...

My mate Mak (aka Fishncrazy) was with me for this trip we left the ramp at 10am a late start due to a screaming 15 - 20 knot cold South East wind, and as we thought at about 6 mile out the ocean turned into a giant washing machine with 2.5 - 3m swell meeting a roaring south east 1.5 - 2m chop making for a uncomfortable ride out.

I dedided not to head far with the conditions the way they were and headed to a few marks about 7 mile out which I hadn't fished for a while and were worth a look and would also mean a quick trip home if the conditions got any worse....

First mark my HDS was showing hard flat coral bottom in 20m with the odd rise/ledge holding bait with 1 or 2 decent fish holding close to the bait which is always a good sign....

So I set the drift and decided to use Butterfly Jigs while Mak stuck to plastics, the call was we would give it an hour or so and if no action we would and head home considering how bitterly cold the wind was and the battering we were getting home seemed a much better option at this stage.....

That was untill Mak's 2nd drop on plakkie resulted in his PB Coral Trout a 690mm 5.5kg model which are a rare catch from around Dongara unless you know where to look....

10 minutes later it was my turn to have my butterfly jig smashed mid water by this solid little 560mm Coral Trout - good fun on PE2.... So by now spirits were high and we decided to FISH ON!!!!

After the 2 Trout we found a school of Dhu fish in 17m and after catching and releasing a few pup Dhu's this 5kg Dhu nailed Mak's plakkie...

Things went quiet for a while after the last Dhu was caught so after a quick "sound for ground" I found a nice tight ball of fish sitting well off the bottom in 25m on the HDS, as soon as Mak dropped his plakkie 2 jigs up and he was on to this healthy little 4 kg Sambo...

Next drop Mak hooks up to this bigger 8kg model on plakkie while I persisted with jigs..

It's always awesome to watch a 15 kg Sambo chase and hit my jig only 2 m below the boat even if this one failed to hook up, we still had a ball catching and releasing 3 or 4 more rat Sambos on PE1...

What a way to finish the day with Mak nailing yet another Trout this one going 650mm on the last few drifts of the day talk about stoked 3 Trout off Dongara in 1 day is un heard of!!!

So yet another great day in the bag despite some trying conditions with 2 x Trout and a Dhu released into the esky and even better we didn't have to travel very far, and yes Mak definately had the touch this day...

I did lose a couple of big fish due to fish spitting the jig but it's always great putting mates onto fish especially a new Coral Trout PB (which Mak's been after for a while)..

Thanks for the read as always crew...

Cheers Lloyd aka - Twitchy
