Wednesday Report
Hey All
Got out on wednesday and finally got some good weather, the last two times iv been out the weather has been completely wrong to the report so it was great to have such beautiful weather on wednesday. The plan was to go OVER THE EDGE but upon getting out there and doing a few drops the current got the better of us, we couldnt even hold bottom with 100oz. We decided to head in shallower and do some jigging for ambers and whatever else was around. I'v been jigging alot of ambers in the past couple of months and over the past 3 years have definatly noticed a big increase in the size of the fish and how much the fishery is growing out there which is great to see. Arriving at my mark the bottom just completely lit up. We jigged the spot for about 4 hours and resulted in over 20 sambos boated and about 10 ambers of good size, we also got some great pinkies on the bait and a few on jigs. We noticed Plenty of whales out there travelling in numbers along with heaps of dolphins, Water temp is still up around the 21c, Anyway here's a few pics of the day out.
We also caught this funky little red fish which i dunno what it is, iv caught one once before but not sure?

We've had this one before.
The top one being a Flame Snapper, bottom being unidentified (looks like yours).
Could be difficult due to it being a juvenile. It's the mouth shape that makes it hard.

top work
pardon my ignorance but how does one tell the difference between a sambo and an amberjack?

Sambo v's AJ
There are a few ways:
1) fattest part of the fish is the body, its an AJ, if its the head, its a sambo
2) Soft Dorsal Fin ray count: AJ: 30 or more, sambo: 25 or fewer
3) The eye starts on an AJ before the jaw hinge, sambos after
4) Slimy = sambo, scaly = aj
and lastly, if its white inside, its a sambo, if its pink, its an AJ

Yeah they do taste ok, the
Yeah they do taste ok, the problem with them is that they're also susceptible to the same parasite that sambos, dolly and a few other fish get. Its not poisonous to people or anything, just the flesh turns to mush when you cook them.
The last few I caught off rotto has it, pretty disappointing.

we caught these in Fiji too where they call them puka puka. Your's looks too skinny though
Nice day by the way, how deep was the jigging? The snapper look healthy for deep water fish (no blow outs)
