Simrad evo3 and Chirp, who has or knows a bit?

Looking around at transducers for an Evo3, who knows a bit or has recent experience with them?

We have 2 x 1KW chirp through hulls in our 10m L Cat charter boat.

175L and 175 H.

These will be spot on for you.

Check out Big Stoinka Marine Adventures on Insta and Facebook.

Mate has a 275lhw through hull, old man has a 275lh transom mount. Both great in their seperate applications. Fishing same areas as you Rob.

 Cheers guys, I have a NSS16

Cheers guys, I have a NSS16 Evo3 (not the latest quad core though).

New plate boat I'm building, wanting to go thru hull.

We are never over 100 meters out from Gero, so am looking at either SS175H (or M, around $1500-$2K), or maybe even just the SS75M ($850) given that over 50 meters will be a rarity.

Plus the fact we bounce over shallows means it could get damaged.

Much rather keep the transom fairly clean.

Reports I read of CHIRP with Simrad from 10yrs ago were rather uninspiring, I gather they have sorted it better now?

Sounds like you have a good

Sounds like you have a good plan, I would stick with the high freqency chirp if you will never go over 100mtrs.

Just to be clear you are drilling a hole and putting a transducer face into the water with the SS175H.  If you bounce over shallows it will get damaged... but I can't imagine you do this regularly.

Other considerations are placement, make sure it's far enough back to get a wet face on plane with no bubbles if you want to get a reading at speed !

Also trailer design... Can have the transducer sitting on the roller/bunks.

Good luck !!

Another wise person on here told me, it's great to look at the simrad sonar but you never see and catch fish at the same time :)  It's also been my expereince !

I've tried both TM275lhw and TM265lh on my Evo 3 and kept the TM265lh , much better for bottom bouncing in my opinion
