simrad out deep opinions

chrisG and I went out reallllllll wide sat in the perfect conditions to experiment with his simrad NSS9 evo2 and p79 in hull 600w 50/200hz transducer

little bit of preperation for some future deep dropping.

anyway here is a pic of what we manged to sound up (didnt fish the mark) doing 7 knots at time of pic, 350m up to 250m very quick.

so we are hoping the experts can give some feed back good or bad.

just a note, this is the first time either of us have tried to tune a sounder for the deep blue. the sounder did loose bottom not long after so 350m and extrodinary conditions seems to be the limits for this setup.

cheers anyway fellas, chrisG and gilly

 One of the great functions

One of the great functions of the nss is the ability to drag the screen back and hold your finger on the screen where the structure is and mark a way point.

 Yeah understand that Randall

Yeah understand that Randall same as my sounder but to move the boat around with trolling gear out to find the edges of the lump is near impossible unless you like untangling gear

Good effort with that

Good effort with that transducer! Nice ledge, with fishing. You won't see fish with a P79 in that depth unfortunately, you were very lucky to see the bottom

Hey Gilly if you don't mind

Wed, 2016-03-02 11:25

Hey Gilly
if you don't mind could you put up the settings. obv can see the gain and colour but what sort of ping TVD and clutter (interference) did you have ?

I don't usually fish too deep but will be hitting CB soon and always travel pretty wide there.

Cheers

Hey guys back in range for a

Hey guys back in range for a few hours,

thanks for the feedback

sounder was tuned-in within an inch of its life by Gilly to get that picture in such deep water with only a 600w tranny...our aim was to see if with such a low power unit we could get any sort of usable picture for occasional deep drop off Perth but more specifically for when I'm fishing 100-150 for Goldband next month and for when fishing 300 plus for Ruby's later in the year....confident on the 150 but now thinking Ruby's in 300 plus will be a stretch having now trialled it.

from memory TVG was right up, ping speed was middle of the range, noise rejection was either off or on low

every auto function was off and all systems were on manual, in fact until Gilly turned the gain off auto we could hardly read bottom at all...

gilly is being pretty modest and I'm not sure without him there I would have had much idea, although I'm starting to get hang of it the more I/we mess around with it

im pretty confident in similar conditions we could get a useable bottom picture to drop some deep baits down up,,,,far from an ideal setup but not in a position $$ to add a 1kw+ unit to the boat (yet).

pretty interesting stuff thou!

Hey and cheers just saw you

Hey and cheers
just saw you have replied with settings and really appreciate it
I run a NSS8 myself 600w tranny. Perth only fish to max 70-80m but traveling CB next month and always love to get out to the goldbands etc. and ofcourse CB is all about seeing the fish not structure on bottom.
pretty similar settings to mine and I always run on manual (prob don't need to in shallow but force of habbit

once again Cheers

cpu

 Hi gillyL,

try changing your depth range to just show the bottom, in the situation above you can wipe out the top 200m, this doesn't just give better detail but reduces the load on the sounders CPU, giving better range and signal at the sounders/transducers peak range. Make the sounder do the least amount of work for best clarity (certainly works with the Lowrance/Simrad products).

Simrad in deep water

Mon, 2016-08-29 07:33

hi guys,

I'm new to the forum, but I thought you might be interested to know I've had some good success with my NSS12 evo2 in deep water. I run a 1kw airmar in hull (164 I think) works a treat to 300m.

You need to tune it for the depth, but we spotted rubys at 280 a few months ago in Exmouth.

cant recommend the in hull tranny enough, clear bottom at 30 knots.
