I use 210-400lb 49 strand for sharks. The seven strand stuff gets chewed through by the real big ones. Even the 49 strand stuff comes back looking fairly bad but holds up fine.

Single strand kinks so I figured It would be weakened and would eventually break on real big stuff bit for smaller stuff can't see why it would not work. Nah I don't usually paddle, I mostly slide bait or balloon for sharks but sometimes I need to paddle.

I use single strand for trolling, but as Chris as said its not ideal for sharks. Had one hit my diver at Gero once and started doing some sort of twisting manoever, busted the wire pretty easily.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I would agree that single strand is best left for trolling and 49 strand for sharks.  I usually use 270lb 49 strand, but like Chris said, i've had this come back only hanging on by a couple of strands so was glad i had the other 47 there for the teeth to get through first!
