Looking for a small spin reel to go on my 1-3kg Abu stick, primarily use for whiting on poppers.
-Size looking for (1000) loaded with 2-4LB Braid
- Currently looking at a quantum smoke, stradic CI4, sustain FG
- Price range $200-$300

Don't know much about the
Don't know much about the smoke. The ci4 always feels a bit flimsy to me and the sustain doesn't feel like $150 more reel than a stradic fj.
I know you haven't listed it but I'd be going with a Stradic fj with lots to spare for some top shelf braid. Best value reel out there.

The stradic is a fine
reel for sure. However my whiting popping outfit is a Diawa Black label FT with a Sustain 1000FG. Balanced, light (cast all day) and to top it off a perfect match in colour. This has become a craze with me that I havent mastered, but didnt yet want to outlay the bigger bucks on a Stella for something that could just turn into a fad. However for whiting popping and other light tackle fun this has now become my right hand man. Just LOVE this combo, and very impressed with the little Sustain.

I recently bought a Pflueger
I recently bought a Pflueger Asaro for my sister. Very smooth reel! Ideal for whiting, bream, skippy etc

Mate, if its just whiting
Mate, if its just whiting you're chasing, maybe a shimano aernos would be the go.... and half or less than half your budget, and is actually a nice little reel if maintained.
(which goes for anything)

Stradic for sure
Stradic for sure
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Whitting reel
Hi mate, For what you are wanting to use it for the Shimano Stradic FJ 1000 will do the job very nicely and fits the budget well. If you wanna spend a little more than the Stradic ci4 1000 is a very nice reel and is a fair bit lighter so makes it ideal if a full day of casting is on the cards. We have both instore so if you wanna check them out drop through!
