snapper at busso jetty!!!

hi guys thought id share some of the picks from busso jetty friday morning.

got there around 6oclock conditions were great and was fishing by 6.30, didnt really get much until around 8 oclock when i had a good bite which quickly snapped me off, about 5min later heard a lad SCREAMING so ran up and saw him pulling over a pinky on a hand line....got up close and saw my rig still hanging out its mouth!!!

was absolutly fuming but pleased for the lad that caught it.

so i walked back all red faced and set uo again, within five minutes had another ripper bit and had a fish on. after around a five min fight i saw it was another pinky and soon after i had the fish on the deck.....i was over the moon!!!!!

and was bigger than the 1st! it was 93cm long and about 8.5kg which was and all round guestimate by the guy at the tackle shop n guys on the jetty.

the locals tell me you dont get them off the jetty very often so thank god i went fishing that morning!!!!

Well the jetty never seizes to amaze does it? It's highly likely you were fishing a location on the jetty where in the past ships that came into tie up at the jetty would remove ballast in the form of stone to be replaced by their cargo- I'm talking a long time back here - in current times best described as environment enhancement!

Some of the older jetty workers would fish these locations and as a youngster I can remember old Jack Hughes an ex Mill hand with several fingers missing off his left hand trudge quietly past us to a pre destined jetty location at certain times of the year to fish these locations - he regularly caught Snapper from the jetty - but always kept it low key so people didn't know the quality of fish he was getting - It'd be 25 years plus since his passing and I'm sure he'd be looking down at a rare feat of 2 Pink Snapper on the "planks" of the jetty with a gummy shark to boot.

I'm ex Busso and spent the best part of my first 22 years fishing the old structure. Probably the most memorable event in my time there was the night a massive Mulloway school turned up and over a 100 fish were caught and hauled onto the planks of the jetty - the old girl turned silver that night and you had to look to where you could step to so as not to trip up on one of the big "ocean liners" that night.

Top pinkies. You're right, you don't hear of them being caught there too often. Maybe it's a secret LOL.

yeah was very surprised when i pulled it up and saw pink!! heart was in my mouth for a few minutes.

the top pinky and gummy wasnt mine they were a lads bout 40yards from me, i just took them together so everyone could see, although when he pulled his pinky in it still had my rig in its mouth!

after that i packed up and left i was happy with what i had, although there was more there because the lad that pulled his in saw 4 or 5 0f them swimmin near his bait before he hooked up, he got his on a live trumpeter, i was told nothin eats them!

also had a look in its gut wen i filleted it. had swimmer crab, snook, a whole leather jacket untouched, and few other fish.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Tue, 2012-04-17 17:43

Hey Snappermiles got any tips to share on where to go in close with my tinnie?

Been trying a bit of late with only a few small ones landed.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards Choc.
