My Pohnpei Blue
I headed out yesterday afternoon for a quick fish and within 30 minutes we hooked up what was estimated to be a 180-200kg Pacific Blue. Unfortunately we lost it a little while later. We were broken-hearted and headed straight home to get inside the reef before dark. With the marlin on my mind I lost some sleep but got to to head out again this morning for another crack. It took a little longer today, about 40 minutes..... Once the lines were cleared I fought it stand-up all the way to the boat, the black magic equalizer helping me out. About half an hour later it was boat side. The best feeling ever for me as I have lost a few since getting over here and this is the first one I've managed to get to the boat. I had never trolled before coming here and I am happy to say that I've reached the pinacle of fishing in the pacific, a blue marlin. I've got wahoo, dolphinfish, yellowfin and dogtooth tuna but this is the best of them all. Now I just have to get a 'larger' pinacle but for now I'm happy.

Kept it
Cheers. Yep a day to remember for sure. I kept this one. The bill is drying as I type this. Nothing goes to waste here and 160lbs of marlin goes a long way to feeding the masses of people here that earn less than the average wage of $1.40 an hour. A really great day for me.

nothing wrong with killing a
nothing wrong with killing a fish as long as it doesnt go to waste mate! My first marlin died boatside, due to us livebaiting it. WE brought it home was delicious and then gave away the rest. I tried to bring its bill home, and sydney customs didnt want a bar of it. well done , hope theres many more to come!

Cheers Mate. As you know I'll only make any mistake once when it comes to fishing, unfortunately with marlin fishing it only takes one mistake and it's quite often all over. I reckon I've made most of the mistakes a man can make now and hopefully I'll see a few more coming in for a photo. Very excited with this one - my dream has come true.

Jigs
There's always a bigger fish in every species Andy, but for me any billfish is a great one. Once the weather settles (about June) I'll be having a good crack at ruby snapper and dog tooth tuna on jig. None of the boats have sounders though so it is a little hit and a lot miss when jigging here. Big GTs on popper will be on the list aswell.

Cheers Dan. They call it Sakau here. I've tried it (a few times) but it will never replace beer in my fridge, that's for sure.

Nice fish! Been to Pohnpei
Nice fish! Been to Pohnpei heaps of times for work but didn't get a chance to wet a line. Caught a blue about the same size a couple of years ago in Vanuatu and I still brag about it! Well done!
