Snelled hooks on a paternoster rig
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Sun, 2013-03-03 03:02
I'm keen to try snelling hooks on the dropper loops of a paternoster rig but unsure exactly how to go about it. I'm thinking of snelling two hooks together, then trimming the excess line off so I'm just left with one hook snelled to the other, then connect the snelled hooks to the paternoster dropper loop as you would normally. I'm just not sure if that's the right way of doing it. Does anyone else do this that can shed some light for me?

Put a swivel on the top
When I do mine I normally put a swivel on the top just above the top hook.
that way you can just thread the swivel through the dropper loop similar to what you would do with a hook.
i find this helps to reduce line twist with the stoppers as well.

Double overhand loop
Just tie a quick double overhand loop on the end of the snell and attach to your dropper loop.

I use a three way swivel.
When fishing deep with 100lb leader I use a three way swivel to tie my snells on to. Takes longer to make but when a shark bites off one hook or one hook gets busted off, all you have to do is tie on a new set of snells to the swivel instead of making a new rig. Seems to work just as well to those I fish with on the boat without the swivels.

yep, I too use three way
yep, I too use three way cranes. reduces line twist and means you can easily run a snell. I have snell on the bottom, single hook on the top.

Yep as leemo said 3way
Yep as leemo said 3way swivels with a snell on the bottom and single on the top. If you run 2 snelled droppers it becomes a real pain In the ass with twisting and tangles etc

I just use a dropper loop
I just use a dropper loop then cut it so its a single strand then snell the hooks on that..... Just make sure the loop is big enough so you have enough line to tie the hooks on..
