Have you scrubbed out the inside of the current mask's glass with toothpaste?

did you hock a big loogie?

Thu, 2011-02-17 18:54

did you spit in your mask at all, or use any anti-fog? is it a new mask, as they need a light "buffing" to remove the layer of coating thats on them. you can do that by rubbing a bit of toothpaste on the inside of them when you're in the shower next.

other than that, i got a new set of oceanic shadows that are pretty sick. they are "frameless" (as a lot are these days), and have the glass set straight into silicon, and are super comfortable.

Definately give the inside of

Definately give the inside of the lens a clean out with toothpaste to start with. Only have to do it once and there onwards use anti fog gel.

The Sea Drop anti-fog and lens cleaner. Best stuff on the market and $9.95 for a small bottle, it'll last you ages.

The sea drops gold work

Thu, 2011-02-17 21:48

The sea drops gold work really well. If you've scrubbed and scrubbed with toothpaste then try that. It can also help not leaving your mask on your head when out of the water (as it can heat up from your forehead). Also, underwater, if you have to, putting a bit of water in the mask and swishing around can help clear it for a little while.

greener the cleaner

could go the gel drops but hocking a loogie is a cheaper alternative and u should never run out! and yea when u first buy your mask give it a good scrub with tooth paste.

With your current mask u could always grab a new stap if its too small, however if u go new probably the most important is a good seal on your face, just place the mask on your face without the strap and suck in through your nose slightly, if the mask stays on and creates a seal without air leaking in your on a winner! the strap shouldn't be there to strap the mask to your head more so just to prevent it falling off if that makes sense...

That should be the first thing to look at in my mind when buying a mask then just look into range of visability, cost and if u have the chance go for black silicone.... oh and if u get a pink one you know it'll never get stolen

Theres alot of good masks out

Fri, 2011-02-18 06:31

Theres alot of good masks out there.

1. Pick one that is low volume with black silicon and comfortable.  Why black - Light only enters the glass, so improving vision.  In the shop - Place mask on face, strap off, suck in air via nose, mask should pull on.  Now wiggle mask off.  If firm pressure (no leak), then it fits.

2. Home, unpack, and rub toothpaste all over the inside glass - small cirlces (not too hard).  Rinse, rinse, rinse and rinse.

3. When ready for a dive. Leave mask till last.  Make sure mask is DRY.  Spit in it, rub, little rinse, but leave water in it if still not ready.  Last thing, wash face down with water you are about to jump into (this cools ya face, removes oils, removes make up etc), Mask on; try not to breathe out through nose as this will introduce humid air into the mask and fog it.

Those crabs won't stand a chance now.

Cheers Pete
