Soft Plastics or metals for Kalbarri
Submitted by Poppy on Sun, 2015-03-15 16:07
I have always been a bait fisherman. I have been out with Whitey from Jurien on several occassions, but have now booked to go out with him from Kalbarri in early April. I am determined to fish for the first time with artificials and have 3 packs of McArthy 7" bullhead minnows and 4 metals ranging from 120g to 190g. So it will be a first for me on two fronts, fishing from Kalbarri and going the artificial route. I would really appreciate some forward advice regarding the most effective way to go (plastic or metal) or should I just ask the maestro when I get out on the water?
Cheers and thanks.

Jigs you have are heavy
I've been told he is using lighter jigs than that, the water he mostly fishes isn't that deep, 30-35 metres. 80-100gms? I've caught various fish up here lately between 15-35 metres on 100g fluttering types,(Samson, Trevally, Rankins, Estuary cod) although he is working further north on the ground. As for soft plastics, I haven't used the ones you describe, but the 7" Jerk Shads work well, as do the big(5") Gulp Grubs. Jig heads sizes to suit depth and drift, as you would expect.

either will work.... I prefer to work jigs myself, but nothing wrong with the McCarthys that do catch fish.
try jigs and if your not having any luck swap over... or vice versa

Thanks for the help, guys.
Thanks for the help, guys. Looks like I may need to get a couple of lighter jigs, but otherwise I'm set.

Only problem I have found up
Only problem I have found up there with plastics is the blowies and tailor keep biting them in half. At least with metals you dont have to change them all the time.
