Solar panels + inverter for house
Submitted by bradz on Tue, 2013-07-16 13:07
Hi guys
It has been discussed before but I cant find what I was looking for.
I have been given some quotes for a 3kw set up for our house for around $4500 to $5000. However, the inverters do not appear to be ones that held in high regard, and the panels arent alot better.
Can anyone recommend a company that deals with reputable inverters (eg. SMA, Aurora) and quality panels.
Happy to hear your comments as well.
Cheers
Brad

I recently got a 3kw
system imstalled.
specs
dual tracking ( extra $260 )- 1.5kw on the North and 1.5kw on the West, I couldnt fit them all on the North
1 x 3kw SMA sunnybouy inverter
12 x 250w Jinko poly panels
$4250 + new Western Power meter = $280 = $4530 total
Happy with the install, no messing around, yet to see the performance when the bills come in amd the Sun shines
I got about 10 quotes, and I didn't go the cheapest either

Dont waste your money. Itl be
Dont waste your money. Itl be years before you get your money back and the performace of the system by then will be reduced. You have to make use of the power when (daytime) you are producing it. No point getting stuff all for what you put in the grid then buy it back for shitloads more. You have to be prepared to get up and clean them all the time, one bit of bird shit will stop a panel from working as the cells are linked in series and dirty panels loose their effeciency. They loose effeciency over time too. My mate builds weather stations and wave bouys and uses solar panels to keep the batteries charged but it is hard to get longevity and reliability in between servicing some of these remotely located bouys. Another mate spent 10k on a 5kw system, regrets it now. I believe it was an economic stimulus by the govt, sure the rebates and rates were good back then, aswell as a crap solution to Perths struggle to meet power demands. Just my 2 cents worth
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Went with infinite home
Went with infinite home energy. 22 230kw panels with a 4.2KW aurora inverter, about 8500 earlier this year.
Bills are sitting at about $60 per two month period for a 4 by 2 house. Have rev cycle aircon but don't run it all the time. Like tim-o says better to use the energy in the day, eg only run washing machines, cool house with aircon in the day. You get only 8.5 cents per kw hour you put into the grid yet buy it back at night at about 25
