Something Happening off Mandurah

A lot of choppers are suddenly making their way out to an area off Mandurah. Hope all is good.

That would be why the choppers are pretty spread out, 2 RAC rescue choppers out off Mandurah working a grid and a RAAF chopper working between Rotto and the mainland.

First boat on the scene
First boat on the scene pulled 3 from the water. One was reviving CPR and one shouting and stuck down below. Still one missing.
The boat was launched in 1990 and has raced to Indonesia a hand full of times and has done Sydney to Hobart twice.
absoloutely tragic news for a very small sailing community.

I’ve posted a pic on my original posting. Shows the 2 RAC choppers and the AMSA sea search and rescue jet arriving back in the area.

The two are now known.
The two are now known. Tragedy is that 5 survived the initial incident. South easterly gusting to 35 would have made it near on impossible to hold onto an upturned hull.

Yacht club commodore said south easter gusting to 45km/hr, only 20 knots? Nothing for a bluewater crew. What happened?

I can remember that name from many years ago, in the Sydney -Hobart. Really well known yacht. My condolences to those who are involved.

RIP Paul Owens
My Uncle was a passionate sailor and shipwright for many decades. He had a love of the ocean and all that went with it. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Condolences to the skippers family, and thankyou to crew members and rescuers that tried to assist my uncle in what would have been harrowing circumstances.

There is nothing good about this, but you're right. Sailing was his happy place.
