Sounder issues of course

 Gday all.

Lowrance hook2 5, lowered right down ( starboard ) after tial and error. crystal clear out of harbour doing 20+ knots and up to 30m

Loses bottom when heading deeper 40m+ and when rough, ( south coast and 5m ali quintrex ) so mostly always, and have to slow down to 4-5 knots to find again. Very frustrating not having picture between my marks.

I am fishing more 50-70m these days, am i expecting too much from this high chirp unit?

Anyone played with noise filters and bottom lock with this model in these depths

Running an elite hdi5 as chart only next to other unit.

Q's;

*hook2 high chirp vs using the elite hdi with a p66 50/200 in these depths

*buying a new unit (reveal ) or similar that comes with a 50/200, newer technology

Happy to move away from lowrance (any recommendations/2nd hand units ) to see the bottom at speed on this hull

Your thoughts??

hook 9 triple shot

I had the hook 9 triple (sounder/chirp/plotter) on my caribbean, and it was a very slooooowwwww unit, that continually lost bottom. back tracking to plot marks was a pain in the arse, and confused the shit out of the unit.

 the hook is a budget

the hook is a budget model

the fact it reads good to 30 then loses says its not placement of the trannie

reckon she just can compute the data at the depth and speed - i might be wrong

im happy with a  hdi live  but i run a  furuno 295 when over 65m

mates over east uses a old gen 2 hds fishing 300m out of sydney - browns mountain etc- they use a std trannie it came with - and they catch fish

 Hey Shark1

Thanks for your 2 bobs

Reckon your right

Replaced sounder with a 600w head unit and trannie ( upgraded ) and it is chalk and cheese

Holding picture at speed, at depth and seeing things i couldnt before

Stoked....

Thanks for calling a spade a spade
