Hard to say exactly without

Thu, 2013-05-16 19:11

Hard to say exactly without knowing what settings are in place on your Furuno. Looking at your density's it would seem as though your sitting on some hard bottom with a school above. Not a lot of solid returns in the school so dont think they would be anything too big but hard to say? Nothing on the chew? Did you pick up any knifejaw or even green eyes?

your just heading over a slope on 50hz

Thu, 2013-05-16 19:30

youll get that soft show.if youd viewing it heading back up it it would appear hard and much easier to identify fish. The 585 is underpowered and pics like that over steep slopes are common.

It could just be Target masking

Fri, 2013-05-17 11:15

Target masking is a phenomenon where acoustic energy from the

transducer encounters a ledge which is only partially within the beam.
This produces an echo which is sent back to the transducer sooner
than the echo returned by either the sea bottom or fish targets. The
result is that these fish targets will not be discernible on the fish finder
screen. This phenomenon can occur with trenches as well as when
traveling over sloping ground.
It is also possible to pick up a second echo from the sea bed, which will
show as an echo on the screen at a greater depth than that of the ledge

Thu, 2013-05-16 21:15

Dougie's spot on, these show pretty clearly what he's on about.

And these two show the difference between 50khz and 200khz on the same spot at the same speed from the same angle. These are on the drift btw

Rubes

Sat, 2013-05-18 10:06

Coupla different ones, both areas produce rubies and GB off Exxy.  As you drift off it the sounder goes back to being flat.

How do you work out settings

Sun, 2013-05-19 16:11

How do you work out settings I just bought a boat with the 620 on it and I can't work it out? I cant get it to show anything like that and the picture is nowhere near as clear. is it worth the money upgrading to something like the simrad nss8?
