I haven't been following this closely, but saw it in today's media, what does it all mean to us recreactional fishermen?

Nothing to do with biodiversity.

Tue, 2011-10-18 02:52

For the fishers down here in Busso. it will cripple the commercial fishing industry operating in the Southwest and for rec-fishers it will severely curtail the amount of fishing territory that we can access which is regarded as reasonably safe fishing ground and push fishers into deeper and more dangerous waters to get a feed of fish. It is absolutely absurb what is proposed at present but what would you expect from the Gillard Government that are puppets for the Greens and Bob Brown. It is this type of irresponsability the Labor Government have become reknowned for with the pink batts debarkle and now more lives threatened this time fishermen. They say the biodiversity needs to be protected but this has nothing to with that and solely targets popular fishing ground and fish stocks that are regarded as being sustainable and this is the reward we get by fishing in a responsible and sustainable way. There's no doubt Gillard and the labor party are governing on borrowed time and even Gillard herself if the leaks are correct is looking down the barrel of a gun waiting for someone to pull the trigger. Lets get rid of Gillard and Tony Burke as well for being stupid in the extreme for listening to the ill-informed opinions of greenies and other pressure groups in favour of the opinions of rec-fishers. Hasta la vista labor party and good ridence I reckon.

"The draft plans had drawn

"The draft plans had drawn criticism from conservation groups for not giving enough protection to marine ecosystems between Kangaroo Island in South Australia and Jurien Bay".

And just how much of the West Coast of Eyre Peninsula in SA and the Great Australian Bight (a fair chunk of the bight is already a marine park and has been for some time), is actually accesible to fishermen and how often does it get fished.  One of the zones off Streaky Bay in SA is about to wipe out a mates charter operation (80% of his fishing is trolling for blue fin tuna which are migatory so would have to question how much damage he does to the biodiversity anyway).  I used to (at times), donate to green groups and support them, was asked to donate the other day in a shopping centre and (nicely), told the young lass she had bugger all chance of getting a donation from me.

Cheers
