Thanks for all the comments guys. Tim-O, there are a few theories regarding the black colouration.. as far as I'm aware there hasn't been much research on the topic. One such theory is that the black ones are male fish and has something to do with spawning. Whatever the reason they sure look badass!
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how do the massive one's fight in comparision to say a 40kg one? Do they move as quick and have the same amount of stamina?
Hi Buz, yep they're Amberjacks. They get them really big there but unfortunately we didn't find them in the XOS sizes. If we spent more time jigging it's possible we could have got some better ones but the focus was primarily on surface popping. Nah mate we didn't have a reef fish.
Ken Hell mate, they are bloody monsters. I got twitchy when I started seeing them but then resigned myself to the fact that the back couldn't take it ! Well done !

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Hi Patty, the massive ones
Hi Patty, the massive ones have just as much stamina and pull so much harder than the 40kg fish.
Hi Ben, the biggest they've caught is high 60's.
