one thing to be a spearo

Sat, 2009-07-25 19:06

Its one thing to call yourself a spearo, its another thing to be good at it.  Theres some seriously good divers up here, i've dove a lot and wouldn't even consider myself anywhere near their league.

Spear is NOT easy and

Spear is NOT easy and anybody that thinks its weak or easy should have

a look at themselves. DhuBoy come up to Karratha and ILL put you 15 to 20m

down and get you to shoot a big bluebone and would love to see you win that battle.

Sorry m8y the invite wasnt for you , Dont take this wrong but going by your

spearguns new/used you have alot to learn eg: equalising.

When you get abit better and understand what you MUST do so that you are

not putting yourself in danger feel free to come alongCool

You don't shoot it

Sun, 2009-07-26 17:53

If anything most people are more conservative/selective when spearfishing. If a fish is not well over size it doesn't usually get shot.

Well said John,

Selective  fishing  and if unsure if it size then plainly DONT shoot , it is that simple.

I have some tape on my gun

Sun, 2009-07-26 21:33

I have some tape on my gun at appropriate spots to help judge size, but unless your 150% sure they are size, leave them there. Another will swim by.

As some of the guys say, spearing, when done responsibly is the most ecologically friendly form of fishing. No bycatch, no undersized in distress, take exactly what you need.

Finally, shoot me down if you like, but I spear on air. If I was comfortable freediving I would do it instead, but physically I am not up to it.

No worrys,,i think things look 1/3 rd bigger underwater?  i was thinking sizeing might be a little tricky, i guess the more experience you have the easier it gets at estimateing Smile
