Spider Cracks in Hull
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2016-07-02 16:34
I have an area in the top hull about the size of my palm that I noticed had been bogged up at some stage when I was polishing it.
I've now noticed some fine cracked in the bogged area and I have looked on the other side of the hull and there is no sign of damage so I assume the area had a small amount of damage so I have two options. Get some gelcoat repair filler and push it into the cracks or remove all the bog with a grinder and patch it up properly with fibreglass and paint with flowcoat.
Is it even worth trying the gelcoat repair option?

Cracks
Is there anything underneath the cracked area that's creating a bit of a pressure "hot spot"? I can't see any sign of an impact. I found weak bleach is good to clean the grime out of the cracks as that's what makes them visible, at least with white gel coat anyway. It obviously wont fix the crack but if it's only cosmetic.....As far as I know it doesn't hurt the actual fibre glass.

The area is slightly off
The area is slightly off colour and it is solid to bang and not 'hollow' like the areas around it so I am assuming the previous owner did some damage and bogged it up instead of reglassing the area. I'm guessing the rigid bog pushed against the flowcoat they painted over it and has cracked it.

Is that a seafarer ?
is there a bulkhead be hand that crack ? That would explain the dull thud when you hit it. I had a 650f signature that had star cracks in a similar area and it was due to the positioning of the bulk head and flex at the gunnels. Just running things through my head ? The repair job my not be that deep, maybe just cosmetic ?
