spiking

i ve heard this talked about,but havent used this technique,so was after some tips,where do you spike the fish? how deep?where do i get the spikes ,does it work on all species?would you still bleed the fish after spiking?
have heard that is the best way to despatch a fish humanely and would like some feedback,thanks in advanced

Cut Throat!!
I used to use a metal scewer pushed through a wine cork for my handle. Good for fish like herring whiting tailer etc and not oversize.
Otherwise I cut the old throat and if possible snap the neck back and watch the blood squirt out!
And the soon er you get your fish on ice the less the blood gets into the flesh.
