Squid On......

Jumped over the side a few weekends ago to capture some squiddly action.

Expert casting by the missus made the filming a little easier.

Mission now is to find a large school of squid in clear water!

serious question??

they have ink sacs in the hood and they squirt a little bit at a time but it mixes with the water and spreads. they often leave just enough to get you at the end tho. like a reserve.

cheers

Nice video mate and thank you - the first segment will help me out with my action as I am yet to catch a squiddy. I will dedicating a day to squidding up near Leeman so hopefully will get into them!

That's last squid looked like a nice size.

With all them ink shots.. You're shooting the wrong type of movie!!

You have potential there mate. Turning a boring task of bait collecting into a stimulating video..

Very good work..

If you're doing it for bait and its boring, you're doing it wrong Tongue out

Great video Pete! Especially the closeups of that squid at the end. Very interesting the one that came off, watching it dart sideways in the clouds of ink, then shoot back off into the blue.

Glad you lot enjoyed it.  I think it shows that yes you need a light action rod to absorb the 'pulsing' squid....especially if it is just their feeder arms connected.

Danno, we picked up about 10 around the moorings and a few more out in the sound and none of these were for bait.  They are just too tasty!  Some went on squid pizza that night.

Yeah, I was surprised by the amount of ink too.  The squid that had its tentacles around the jig did not squirt...couldn't propel its self away maybe?

If you have a swarming sambo spot in under 30m Goodz, I'm in.

Haha Freo_Boi, some day maybe - should introduce my crab stars to these squid hey.

Yeah Russ, it was cold, hence a bit of camera shake there.  I wanted to chase more but the cold drove me out.  Boardies were just not enough.

What else do you miss Soupy - I'll get some footage!
Cheers Pete

Dont forget key biscayne

Wed, 2010-08-25 14:24

Dont forget key biscayne too. Even at the barges (100m) i've seen amberjacks in the top 20m a couple of times (unfortunately only up to 5kg or so).

Lots of sambos at the abrolhos islands, in 2m of water :p. Locals probably wouldnt appreciate you jigging for them there, neither would fisheries... Thats if you can even get one jig in before hitting the surface, hehe.

Pete, when summer/autumn rolls around, would love to see some Dollie videos Laughing

Fantastic footage again as usual - some of those Exy dives we got would make for some interesting footage as a plastic was dropped down :P
