SRI LANKA

Heading to the west side next month for a bit of surfing, fishing and diving in filled with being very very lazy and eating way too much.
wondering if anyone has been and has the goss on landbased. I'm guessing boats are much like in Indo with either lotsa dollars for a flash trip out or hitting in closer with the locals..
Any info will be a bonus

Keep us posted, when I did Nam a couple of years ago, everyone was raving about Sri Lanka as the place to go. Very interested to hear your thoughts when you get back.

fantastic place, never did
fantastic place, never did any fishing but had a cracking 4 wks there, nice and cheap , great locals, and no where near as hectic as india, thailand etc.....

I did Sri Lanka last year and I had a fantastic time - nearly went back this year. We spent about a week in Aragum Bay surfing. Didn't do any fishing but saw some big trevally, jewies, wrays and sharks getting caught by the locals netting. Personally the boats look pretty dodgy and I wouldn't go out in them.
If you like surfing I would just stick to exploring the breaks in this area as it really is epic. The week we were there it was offshore and 2 to 6 foot right hand point breaks the whole week.
Only down side is it takes for ever to get there from Colombo. Expect a 10 hour plus drive if you do it during the day. Maybe less if you do it during the night.
