steep point december January?

has any one had much luck fishing & camping on the beaches at steep point in late december early January? mate and I are thinking of heading up 27th dec and returning home 2nd jan... apparently no room left on the cliff to fish or camp... ranger saying that only leaves the beach as an option... if anyone has been up that time of year and fished anywhere but the cliffs wouldnt mind any advice... mate has all the necessary cliff fish and beach fishing gear just in case.... (mate will be camping high in the hills, got hit by the tsunami at steep point in 06)
other option is to take the boat to hamelin bay for those dates and leave steep point for another year

you'll get plenty of sharks
you'll get plenty of sharks but there is plenty of little reefy spots you cn go to catch baldies and what not, there nothing stopping you from driving up to the cliffs to fish, im sure you will find room to throw a lure mate. the whiting are insane up there if that floats your boat, personaly i love catching whiting, good flathead there too
