Hi Guys if anyone hears of any Furuno gear being sold cheap can you let us know
went to pick my boat up from a fabricator in Perth to find out the 295 and 2 x 2kw tranny’s they fitted had been stolen the night before, they also took my original 585 that was in boat, 2 other boats got stripped at the same joint as well with Furuno gear

Sounds like it has to be my insurance as there’s told him they aren’t liable for boats parked in there yard or shed, they said same applies for cars left at car yards and what not so a lot to sort out next week..

Here we go again
They have a non-deligable duty of care unless you have signed off up front that you accept they have no liability.
There is a heap of legal cases that set precedent. Did you sign something or did they issue with a document spelling out terms and conditions ?

So it should be your
So it should be your insurance against the yards insurance over who pays unless your own insurance specifically excludes such a scenario?

Sounds Like
Sounds like the old "all care but no responsibility line"
You need to push him a bit harder than that, it seems to easy, are there signs posted at his business stating that you are, or at least will be, responsible for anything left on the premisies?
Who is the fabricator? others on here may not want to deal with, or at least leave there boats on his premesis in future.

I will be looking into it
I will be looking into it all next week, there’s no need to name em as they’ve done nothing wrong and it’s just what there insurance is telling them, once I can make calls next week hopefully it all gets sorted

Yeah sure!
Put a boat I had for sale years ago at a boatyard in welshpool, had a argument with them about leaving all the stuff in the boat that was to be sold with the boat ,"customer needs to see what goes with it ".
Two days later rings me up and says "sorry but we got broken into last night and all your stuff was stolen hope you have insurance .
Yeah sure !!!

I doubt he would risk his business by stealing a couple of sounders. I have it written my insurance that client jobs are covered for damage , theft and fire.

I had a business where I regularly held customer vehicles overnight. They were covered by my insurance. Unfortunately had to use it a couple of times.

It's been many years since I carried business insurance but years ago when operating as a Fridgie installing AC systems I had standard business cover. for contractors. There was a section included call "goods in physical, legal control" From memory this covered anything a customer owned that was in my care and control. I'm not sure how it is now days but assume this would be normal cover for a service provider in a commercial setting. Sounds a bit suss to me...
It is a good reminder to check this stuff before leaving boats with expensive gear and dealers or workshops for repairs.
I've been doing boat tops repairs, remakes and re-uphoslery from home for NOR locals and don't have business insurance for this so I make it clear to customers that this is the case and try to minimise the time boats are at my place. I make sure they are hitch locked and valuables are removed if easily removed. I also make it clear that in the unlikely event that there is insurance claim required, it will be the owners insurance.
