Stradic 4000 or Saragosa 4000?
Submitted by Goodz on Sat, 2010-06-12 16:45
Birthday is coming up and a new reel is on the wish list... just not sure exactly what to ask for. Want a 4000 size reel to use as a soft plastic / jig / spin outfit. Only have a budget of about $250 so was thinking either a Stradic or Saragosa as I have both reels in different sizes and like them. Anyone have one of these in the 4000 size? Or other reels to look at? I'm quite a shimano lover tho :)
Also a cheapish rod to match up?

stradic
i have used stradic 4000's for about 11 years now and never been able to fault them - i have 2 and the old man has 3.
the other bonus with the new ones i am pretty sure that the 5000 spool will fit on it too. but yep, love the sradics!
have my main one (one set on a boat rod, other for kayak) on a live fibre texalium and it is awesome (pulled a 90cm cobia recently on it)

I have 2 Stradic's and like them both, I also have 1 Twinpower and 1 Sustain, both are very good reels but I cant pick the difference between them and the Stradics. I will be picking up a Stradic 8000 before my next trip north.

either!
I have both in the 4000. I don't know why but i find myself using the saragosa the most. Loaded it up on recent Exxy trip with a beaut GT. Each to their own i suppose. It's a little gem of a reel.

Yeh I do like my Stradics.
Yeh I do like my Stradics. Also cheaper which leaves me some money to put some braid on it too. Might have to go that way I think.

Both good reels
Hey mate,
I have both reels, and for me i would say go for the Stradic, you can save about $50 bucks over the Saragosa which can go towards putting some 25lb Fireline or decent braid on the spool.
Stradic also comes with a spare spool (which is handy) and a decent bag to store the reel in when your not using it.
In regards to the rods check out the Shimano Jewel Series, most variants listed at around $129 + postage on motackle.com.
Performance wise i don't think you can top these rods for the price, i have the 702 saltwater spin which is a nice rod. Pretty sure they do a snapper spin version which would be well suited to a stradic 4000.
If you want to spend a bit more, check out the Shimano T-curve Powerspin 672, also a very nice rod but a bit more expensive at around the $290 mark
Hope this helps

Cheers Simmo! Yeh I was thinking of looking at the Jewels, my bro got one and I like the feel of it. Budget would only be around that for the rod anyway.

yep the Jewels are good, as are the Raider series. You'll be able to pick up either for under $130. I have a Raider snapper spin (7') and a barra spin (6'6") and both have taken some pretty decent fish.

Just one last question,
Just one last question, whats the line capacity of the 4000 stradic in mm diameter not the lbage. And can they really fit a 5000 spool?

i have a few stradics
nice reel. I have had a drama after last session with a 4000 size. have 20lb braid on it. had a run in with some serious sambos. the one i landed would have been an easy 20kg fish. it didnt run so smoothly after that. so a couple of days later I serviced it and found the floating oscilating worm drive that makes the spool go up and down wich a pawl sits in had stretched and started to bend up. no biggy though. will just have to order the part in. it has been a great reel for the last 4 years and has tamed some serious fish. dunno about the 5000 spool but diametres are 260mt of .26, 180mtr of .30 and 130 of .35 respectively

Saragosa all the way
Started with one, now have 5 (again). Replaced the 5000 donated to the Ocean with another. I have the 4000 (fantastic reel, smooth as), 2 5000 which is used as our predominant reel for fishing around dampier, light yet strong as, a 8000 and a 14000.
Have not found a fault apart from one plastic side plate falling off after abuse in the boat. Nothing a good glue wouldnt fix, and that reel is 2 yrs old (the 4000) and works aswell as the day it was bought.
treat my reels like fishing reels, rough, and the Gosas have outdone everything I have had previous by miles.
I love the Spheros, and the saragosa is more like a beefed up Sheros, even though it has been discribed as a beefed down Stella.
Both reels great but the saragosas I have has made me misplace the 2 Sradics.
And I dont use the Spheros either. That says it all from my point of view.

Too late already gone the stradic! If a few extra $ wasn't an issue I woulda got a saragosa prob but now I can spend that money on some braid... and I gotta get a rod to match! Stretched out the pressie a bit there.
